Did you guys forget what an idiom is? I thought this was a literature site.

I won't mind losing something if I gained from its loss.

Thank you for pointing that out, as it happens to be that you failed to use an idiom. You comment is more of a forced proverb that sounded like you were talking about people than objects with the use of 'doesn't cry'. It's easy to confuse sometimes.

using soap water is the last stage before polishing a crystal is complete. There are four stages of polishing beforehand that use increasingly fine grit tumbling medium.

My proverb does also apply to people.
If someone is put to good use they are less likely to be depressed and cry about it. If someone feels useless then there will be many tears.

It's a sad thing when someone does not put their talents to use.

Well, I did write the original comment intentionally, but you helped clarify just how clever I am. I will point out your OP can be applied to living things as well, and that the proper idiom is "Use it or lose it."

Why yes, that is indeed the idiom I used. I unfortunately am not a native english speaker and am capable of mistakes! Good catch!
