I wouldn't say a fan, but I believe I read a few pieces years ago that were of Arabic origin.
No, it is more along the lines that the eyes are said to be the window into someone's soul.
Someone could be conventionally beautiful, but if their eyes don't seem to express anything, I don't find them attractive.
