How many sites is your story on?

Scribblehub Royal Road AO3 Literotica I almost didn't post it on Literotica, because while there are some sex scenes, it's not the primary focus of the story. But damn, my story is doing better there than on any other site. I've got a similar number of followers there as I do on SH (which is...

What gadgets do you usually use to write novels?

PC at home, smartphone at work... but I use the same keyboard for both. It has a bluetooth option, so I can switch over and type on my phone when I'm not busy.

Making an important edit to an earlier chapter, or work around it for now?

The "draft" idea is most likely the best for me. Having my set weekly release schedule is the number one factor in making sure I continue to write without taking a break that ends up never actually ending. It's miraculous that I've written as much as I have already. (The ADHD meds play a large...

Making an important edit to an earlier chapter, or work around it for now?

I definitely consider this to be the first draft. I saw the advice "it's easier to edit a bad story than to write a good one" and that's what inspired me to actually, finally, write something instead of overplanning it ahead of time. I've only gone back to edit chapters a few times, and that's...

What have your favorite reader interactions been?

One reader seemed knowledgable about a topic I was going to dive into in a later chapter, so I PMed them about it, and we still chat every week. On another site, I have a reader who tends to leave especially positive comments. One in particular made me feel amazing:

Making an important edit to an earlier chapter, or work around it for now?

As I write my latest chapter, I'm realizing that I should have planted the seeds for a plot point in an earlier chapter (about 4-5 chapters earlier, or roughly 10k words). Of course, if the story was private until I finished it, there would be no problem, but since I post each chapter here and...

Have any of you take advantage of using the glossary?

I try to update my glossary every several chapters or so. And, for th most part, I write it in the style of different characters from the story giving their personal explanations of the topic.

    Promoting my Novel Boundless Gods

I feel like most of the self-promotion I've seen on sites like this is filled with spelling and grammar errors. I just don't get it.

    Does writing effect your gaming?

Since I started writing my story, I have only subscribed to FFXIV (a game I've been playing since 1.0's beta!) for one month, and I barely played it during that time. I actually almost resubbed this morning, but then I think that I should be working on my story or another project, and I'd be...

What's your least liked or most hated part of writing?

This might be my least favorite part of writing, too. I've always been terrible at describing people. It also feels weird to me to (for example) have the protagonist meet a new person, then spend multiple sentences going into detail about their looks. It throws off my rhythm.

How Long Did It Take For Your Work To Reach 1k Views?

I didn't start keeping track of views until three weeks after my first chapter went up, at which point I had 4.3k views.

Most entitled thing a reader has ever said?

They even said that in their comment! I'll post the whole thing here: So, heads up: anyone setting a story not on Earth post-Roman Empire needs to come up with entirely different hand signals, and you might want to just write your book in an entirely original language, to avoid any issues with...

    Welcome thread for the newbies!

Oh hey just saw this thread. Hi everyone, I'm James Thornfield. I've done some casual writing in the past, but I'm currently working on my first full novel. (Having kids really put a pin in the "creative writing" thing for a while.) I'm a pretty typical 40-something nerd: I enjoy lots of video...

    Beware the pipeline

Just go for it! I never thought I would start writing a litRPG story or anything like it, but then it hit me: the rules of these series, both those that are inherent to the genre and those that you invent for your world, help me stay focused. I have diagnosed ADHD, so sitting down and thinking...

Thoughts on someone leaving harsh reviews on your novel?

While a harsh review would probably ruin my day, at least it means the person read the story (unless they don't mention anything specific and just seem to be being mean for no reason). The other day, I got my first one-star rating on my story, but there were no negative reviews or comments, so...
