:blob_sir: Okay, for once this is a more normal (ish) poll.

So you ended up in an isekai universe (as usual), and everyone there has really strange tastes.
Specifically, everyone there loves the subject/genre that you hate most.
For example, if you hate BL the most, everyone in this world loves it!!!
Incidentally, most people in this isekai universe suck at writing and they have bad storytelling skills. Your technique at writing stories is better that almost everyone else. Everyone agrees that your technical writing skill is amazing.
Initially, you stared writing the stories that you like, but your preferred content is extremely unpopular and you barely ever get any views/comments. A publishing company noticed your online writing and scouted you. They offered you a $XXX/hour contract if you write stories in the genre that you hate most. The publisher believes that your writing can be the next greatest hit and a best-seller, provided that you simply write more popular content.
The contract is an impressive $XXX/hour guaranteed base salary (assuming that you publish at least one full-length print novel per year), as well as 30% royalty on any book sales. The contract also stipulates that you will work with an editor who will advise you on whether the content you write will sell (or need to be taken out because it would be too unpopular).

1. How much would you have to be paid to write in the genre that you hate?

2. How much would you hate writing a story in a genre you dislike? Is this even possible/achievable for you?

3. If a book publisher/editor told you that a certain aspect of your story wouldn't sell and needs to be taken out, would you change the content of your story for the publisher?

4. Do you write mainly for yourself, or do you write mainly for an audience?

You are confused Pink Pollkin. Written jobs are usually paid per word rather than hour.
Yup! I figured it would be easier for people to compare to people’s current jobs if the number was written per hour.

Yes, it would give me more time to write what I love. Better than what work I'm doing now.

Sure, I'll write it, but I'll need to get paid $$$. At least $200/hr. Otherwise, my day job skills are pretty transferrable.

I’m almost definitely not good enough for this but I don’t hate many genres. Just...mind controling evil protagonists. That’s what I’d have to write and honestly I don’t think I’d even know how to write it.

Gladly!!!

You see, the majority of people out there dislikes their jobs and frankly speaking, mostly everyone wouldn't want to even work at all if that was an option.

Being the best at something in the whole world and reaping the benefits of it at the cost of disliking it is barely a minor inconvenient.

Being somehow unhappy while writing in my tenth villa isn't as bad as you'll think at first :))

Yep! I've been there, done that . . . except it was writing nonfiction. It wasn't paying nearly enough for me to keep doing it, so I quit, and I got into editing after that. Then, I caught the fanfic flu and went back to writing fanfiction.
I could do that sort of writing again if I was earning enough to hire a housekeeper and chef . . . or attract a few husbands who could do the housework.

1- 3k a day. Gold coins. I won't accept fiat currencies.

2- I wouldn't know even how to construct the characters but if I lived in infomercial world I think I can manage.

3- I'm there to sell and the reader is king.

4- the money.

Not a serious response, I'm not a full-fledged author (yet, I hope).

I guess, I'll take this contract and will be writing something I hate, hoping that I'll like it someday. And will write something in a different genre I like on the side. Or even combine them, and offer the "hateful" genre as noncanon side chapters, while writing a novel I'll like. :blob_reach:

What I really wanted to tell you about, is the poll having salaries not related to one's current living conditions. Like, in rural India it would be great to receive money for your job, but in USA someone may already have 50$/hour salary and struggle with debts, or something like that.

So, my answer would be at least twice the average market salary. Don't know if in general or writer's salary, though. :blob_reach:

1. How much would you have to be paid to write in the genre that you hate?

- I'm poor and greedy, so I want lots of money. I think I'm satisfy in 1000 per hour.

2. How much would you hate writing a story in a genre you dislike? Is this even possible/achievable for you?

- There's a possibility that I'll write it even though I hate it, as long as there's money. I mean, money makes the world go round. Everybody will bow to the power of money. Yaoi, tentacles or any gore genre I will write it if I'll earn money.

3. If a book publisher/editor told you that a certain aspect of your story wouldn't sell and needs to be taken out, would you change the content of your story for the publisher?

- Anything for the power money, I'm amateur so I'll believe in their decision. Though I hope you they will not delete everything...

4. Do you write mainly for yourself, or do you write mainly for an audience?

- I write for myself, I want my readers to appreciate my story even if its low quality. I want to write a story before i die..... Damn, too dark

As if no one have been doing things they don't like or hate just to get the $$$.

But, if you are going professional, you have to be flexible.

1. How much would you have to be paid to write in the genre that you hate?

The answer is: as high as possible.

Price, often, is usually not dictated by what you want but what they are willing to pay. If they are willing to pay an insane amount, then why not.

2. How much would you hate writing a story in a genre you dislike? Is this even possible/achievable for you?

I wouldn't hate it much actually. I would be more like I would not care about it.

3. If a book publisher/editor told you that a certain aspect of your story wouldn't sell and needs to be taken out, would you change the content of your story for the publisher?

The costumer is always right. Since I am not writing for myself, then yes, I would change it.

4. Do you write mainly for yourself, or do you write mainly for an audience?

I'm not writing anything actually but… I would opt for both. See, if I am going to write something, it is to share what I like/love with others.

1. Nah. 1st of all - niche exist and it exists cuz of both fans and creators. Sure i have extremely low fanbase but will i leave it just cuz dere are more people loving something i dislike? Surely not.

2. I think if i try hard enough i could write a bl stuff but eeh...not like it would be hateful but painful. Physically.
And if we go with, for example, horror. Me no like horror so i no just not write it i also no read/watch it. So i have zero experience in horror and even if my overal writing skills would be better dan anyone i could not produce a good work cuz it will be ok an base but in genre itll be at most mediocre.

3. Now we talk about the job here but id protect ma wision with all my might ofc.

4. For myself. Me do shit but me do shit id like to read and me do happy when people like what i like.
Well, not like i have a lot of an audience in a first place but still.
