I know I've been two days late of some sort, but with that aside, I just want to celebrate the creation of our 2000's meme, Caramelldansen!

"It’s been years, now, since you’ve seen another living person. The only semblance of humanity around you are the scattered bones that crunch underfoot as you walk from town to town. Living off of canned tomatoes from stores infested with rats, each with a little more rubble piled around the entrance. Each day, you kneel against the walls of whichever empty city you’ve wound up in, and you pray, sometimes for hours on end, to a god you have never believed in.
You find solace in the little things. Picking through what remains of family homes and smiling at the memories that cling to the faded walls.
Each day you struggle to breathe. You’re sick—have been for a while, mostly from dust and ash that peppers the wind, partly from the biting cold that floats down in the dead of night and chills you to your core. The cough is getting worse. You almost don’t care.
Every time you find a computer, you press the power button. Most don’t work at all, and those that do have passwords. Passwords that, try as you may, you’ve never been able to guess.
Until now, that is. The screen flickers to life, and you curl up in the corner of the dilapidated room as your shaky breath rattles in your chest.
Enter password.

You think for a moment.
HOPE.
Logging in...
Your heart races with excitement, but you can’t help but roll your eyes. The password is naive at best, and horribly insecure at worse. Still, you’re not complaining.
The wallpaper is of a group of smiling girls, arms around each other’s shoulders. Your heart aches just looking at it. Whatever happened to them, you hope it was peaceful.
You sit, the inhuman glow of the laptop casting a faint shadow on your face.
You open YouTube. The wifi is down, obviously, but you decide to try the downloaded videos. The lucky chick who owned the account must have had YouTube Premium. With money like that, you’d think she could afford a better password, but whatever.
The downloads are, for the most part, tedious. Makeup tutorials, kpop songs, nothing you’re interested in. Except for one title soon catches your eye.
“Caramelldansen But It’s Sad”.
It’s alienating, seeing it in the list like that. It definitely doesn’t fit with the rest of the videos, but hey, at least it’s something.
You click. The sun has set now, and all that illuminates the silent room is the laptop warming your thigh. You increase the volume, and the tinkling melody fills the room.
It’s the most beautiful sound you’ve heard in years. You lean against the wall, eyes fluttering closed. Your breath is thin and raspy. You’re just grateful for the music.
You fall asleep, with the music comforting you as you drift off. You don’t wake up.
As the very last of humankind disappears, Caramelldansen echoes through the night. You couldn’t ask for anything better."
