I'm surprised no one has made a thread to keep track and share their word counts for the day? You know, as journal of your accomplishments as well as a record of your progress. If others joined in it might spur you and others on further to write more. Like a pep-talk. Encouragement and inspiration and whatnot. Anyone interested?

For example Ill start with my past 4 days, which includes today.

(9/24) 2,218 words (
(9/25) 1,089 words
(9/26) 4,258 words
(9/27) 2,467 words

If it works out though, it'd be nice if people limited themselves to just one reply only while just updating their pre-existing post with updated word counts

The reasons no one's done it before are: It's considered bragging (especially if you're a more prolific writer), it's actually intimidating for people who can't write a lot to see how many others are writing much more successfully than they are, and it's actually discouraging to people that don't release many chapters to see how much you've written. Also, it's a bit of a pain to go through every chapter you've written and to get the word count.

I've written about 6,000,000 words now in four years... and just saying that makes me feel like I'm bragging. I've taken to only say how many extra words I write above a standard daily chapter length (of 2,000), except when I write something exceptional (like a weekly chapter of 6,000 to 9,000 words for the other two stories I'm doing).

What people write is their own business. There's no need for a public showing of how good you are to compare with other writers. Everyone is different and work at their own pace. There's no measuring stick for progress for anyone and there shouldn't be one. It adds unnecessary pressure to something that can already be stressful enough.

You do you and let everyone else do their own thing.

This is the way.

I have spoken. ?

I'm pretty sure I was "doing me" and wasn't trying to coerce people to do as I did. I was asking why it hasn't been done and then giving an example. Also, if people are that thin-skinned so as to be so depressed, discouraged, and intimidated by something so small.....than it wasn't me that made them that way. That's just throwing false blame instead of accepting their own faults. Its also misplacing the responsibility for them. Pretty disengenuous.

Also, there is nothing hard about checking your word count after a single day. Just sounds like laziness but okay. It took me all of thirty seconds to highlight all I had written and then press the word count option that all word processors have.

But sure. Forget I said anything.

Average 2k, I guess. I stopped caring about word counts after I realized that when I care my pacing turns to shit.
Its not a word count problem but a mindset problem for me.

So now I just do 1 chapter a day, however many words that is.

Haha yeah I didn't miss this kind of post. I've done very little words for months simply because I'm too busy

I always try to keep it 500-1000 words per day while the debuff 'procrastinate' is active on me.

I'm just waiting for my 'mood' to set in, since I already planned ahead.

Reader POV...
50+ chapters read I think?
I kind of lost count while immersed in reading.
Some of those chapters are from other sites like NU. -_-

A possible reason for this might be because quite a few authors who use the discord server for SH use a bot provided that monitors your progress in meeting daily word count goals the author sets for themselves.

Another reason might be because it can end up stressing the author out due to them feeling like they have to meet a certain word count - thus affecting their motivation and quality of writing.

Or, people might just not be bothered about what their word count was.
'-'

Btw, well done for managing to write everyday.

You literally said: "If others joined in it might spur you and others on further to write more. Like a pep-talk. Encouragement and inspiration and whatnot. Anyone interested?"
I'm pretty sure that's coercion or at least peer pressure. ? Come do this and show off to others, maybe they'll work as hard as you! LOL Yes, that's a bit of me waxing poetic of your sentiment, I know. ?

Also, if people are that thin-skinned so as to be so depressed, discouraged, and intimidated by something so small.....than it wasn't me that made them that way. That's just throwing false blame instead of accepting their own faults. Its also misplacing the responsibility for them. Pretty disengenuous.

You're showcasing why it's bad to do it by saying that some people are already depressed and discouraged. What I'm saying is, why bother contributing to it? If it does make people more depressed, then it is partially responsible. ?

Also, there is nothing hard about checking your word count after a single day. Just sounds like laziness but okay. It took me all of thirty seconds to highlight all I had written and then press the word count option that all word processors have..

You apparently don't realize the word count in a word processor is different from the word counts set by the site. Some words are disallowed (as are numerical values and anything like coding for indents and bullet points) and the words counted online are reduced by a small margin (for 2,000 words it's usually 50 to 90 or so in the difference, depending on how many stats and things you use. If you used tables, the total words will drop even further).

But sure. Forget I said anything

I wasn't dismissing your post or belittling your efforts (I wouldn't have responded if I was and would have just ignored it). I merely said to carry on with your own thing and let others do theirs. Simple as that. No hate, malice, belittlement, or anger is intended.

I hope you enjoy your day! ?

1) No, I was not coercing. And showing off? Being a braggart? Sorry dude, but let's not pretend you suddenly can discern what I'm supposedly like. That's a whole lot of assumptions you have no basis to stand on for.
2) No, I'm not partially responsible. It's almost disgustingly pitiful that you would even try this tactic. That's like putting all the blame on a brick wall for killing a drunken driver on impact despite the fact he could have hit the brakes and also had plenty of time to turn. I'm just there for some weak-minded individuals to throw the blame onto. Like the brick wall. Nevermind the drinking apparently, which was the cause.
3) What does the sites have to do with anything? I'm pretty sure it was obvious I meant word count by the word processor? Why would I mean by what the site counts as words? Are you really going to try and play stupid and pretend you didn't understand me? If so I'm calling your intelligence into question, or perhaps a simple case of lacking common sense? Either or.
4) Let's drop the act, please. You're not defending anyone, and you look pathetic trying.
5) By implying I need to let others do their own thing, you are insinuating whether intentionally or not, that I was trying to force them to do something they didn't want to. I see no proof of such, I also see no further posts of people refusing and me insisting anyway. So you're "response" was unneeded and without any purpose.

Lol what the hell is this supposed to be?

And bro, @Bokuboy you sound like one of the most self-righteous pricks I've ever had the displeasure of seeing.

The level of try-hardism in your wannabe hero-ness is tragic. It's not a good look buddy. Go play-pretend "I'm-A-Knight-Defending-The-Helpless" on some other forum where it actually gains you some points for it.

Looking like a tool my man. Sad, sad tool

@Bokuboy

Not sure what yur reason for it was but you kinda sound provocative. Looks to me like you were trying to get a rise out of Discount and if you aren't trying to do that, then why insisting he's doing one thing when he says he isn't? And then you trying to again insist he is.

Also, "I have spoken" ?

Pretty strange thing to say. Do you have some kind of clout here? Sounds pretty imperial-speak like.

But I haven't been here in a while so prolly just ignore me.

I can not agree to this. Regardless of diverging opinions, to introduce a point of attack at the person using names and labels, rather than picking apart the ideas and statements... that is not helpful in an arena for the exchange of ideas and thoughts, aka a forum.
