I once participated in a writing competition that was advertised in this forum. The prizes offered were free art/cover art from a selection of three artists, where the first place winner can choose which artist to take, the second chooses after, and the third gets the last artist. There were quite a few participants who joined aiming for that prize alone, and I would say it's a pretty good prize offering.

As for a chance for their story to be made into a manga or webtoon, that's too far-fetched, I believe. Even Honeyfeed needed major sponsors to hold an event like that like KADOKAWA and MAL. Having that as a prize would definitely be very enticing for writers, though, even more than free art, but I don't know if Scribble Hub could snatch a sponsor like them so easily.
Hmm not so easily but there might stillbe some chance
What we could do is for now The staff could Host competitions that don't have prize money but only advertize as winners of competition
By taking time SH could showcase some of it's talents
then we could try and search for sponsors...

as suggested by Hans in this thread
FIRST WE NEED TO SUCCESSFULLY INITIATE IT...PRIZE MONEY CAN BE DONE IN LATER COMPETITIONS/

NU advertising sounds feasible, free cover also sounds feasible. Those prices are more suited for short stories though.

Let me clear the word count limit thing
Some winning contestants get their work made into a WEBCOMIC or MANGA you can say ( If we get that Kind of Sponsor)
For that there is a word limit so that the content is promising and long enough
Usually 50,000 words is a minimum
and readers Identity is always anonymous(managed by the sponsor)
voters are also anonymous in the final voting
Tis a long term contest suggesting and definitely hard on the judges. Imagine having to read 50k to 100k or more of 20 people just to see whether it’s not breaking any contest rules. Reading burnout is a thing.

Idk know how it is for others, but 50k is pretty intimidating and will take a long time to plan, write and publish. The interest may fade if it takes too long.

Usually that's just a criteria to fullfil idts the judges even read the entire thing
We've got to do more research about it

  • Fresh point of view
  • Originality
  • Ideas and concepts
  • Word limit (if any)
  • Grammar
  • Unique writing style
  • Creativity
  • Descriptive language
  • Good diction
This is what the judges look for
This is similar on what basis the people who review books on request on SH forum(unless they are biased)
Like by reading a starting few chapters ...they just know that it's good
(Here First Impression matter)
Then we keep shortening the list.

Thats good but quick question would they be able to submit a book they already wrote or would they have to write a completely new one?

That again depends on how we decide on the competition...Since we haven't had one since long we have a lot of older material that has not been submitted in any competitions on SH which would lead to a lot of work at the first time so,
It would most probably be New or posted a year ago (max) or so...

If you want to make it fair, then only new works.

But then again, this needs volunteers who will commit to organisating through the whole competition otherwise this will lead to nothing. You can’t pin this work on staff members.

Well, we also need to figure out exactly what organizing entails in this situation. Are they in charge of some sort of poll? Reading through stories to ensure they meet whatever criteria is set? Other things I can't think of off the top of my head?

You can refer to https://forum.scribblehub.com/threads/event-blbl-short-story-anthology-elementals-💦.26368/

Mind that anthology =/= contest. Our rules outlines is similar to that of contests though. BUTT ? this year anthology has rules that allow to break SH content rules to be posted on AO3. So look at older anthologies which only allowed stuff within SH rules.

Hey? That person...is he still come online? It seems he knows how to conduct such competitions...even though it's BL focused we could know a bit of how to make the criteria and all for the competitions...If you could try and get him on this thread

it's a group/team behind it and I'm part of it, but nobody of us has time to organize another event as the anthology is running rn

you can use the rules as reference though
