So, I decided to make this for my side cultivation novel, and I realize this is a perfect way to keep be able to rise the tensions while also giving strong people aura as well as making the heavens more involved in the plot than just being there for the sake of being there:

Venerable: Venerables are a type of existence that only occurred when a divine crystal layer is placed around the Void Chamber which is created by the heavens, turning you into Heaven Will’s weapon, tasked with killing those who dare try to reach Rank Immortal

No, it has nothing to do with lightning

Well, I was asking if you are using some sort of heavenly assassin to gatekeep progression rather than a traditional style of tribulation, aka lightning.

No, there is still a tribulation, it just doesn't come in the form of lighting always and it's not there to test you but outright kill you since the heavens don't want people to cultivate.

The heavenly assassin as you call it is merely there to stop people from becoming true immortals once they reach rank 5 as they have become too powerful for heavenly tribulations to stop them, their fates being less controlled to the displeasure of heaven's will, essentially being a final ace to stop that cultivator and kill them while they are still mortal

Basically, yeah

Well, it would still fit the archetype... heavenly tribulations aren't always lightning, cultivation authors just use that as a shortcut.

There are also mental tribulations (fight yourself!) heavenly beasts, morale, potential deviations, alchemical challenges, and sometimes just some kinda weird challenges... they just aren't as common.

I say run with it. Creativity is always good.
