My understanding based on what someone else said is that it's a comedy, in that world, people can reincarnate repeatedly until they're satisfied, but the wait time to become the stereotypical hero with a harem is like, 50K years or something. So, this guy decides to try being a bunch of random things, like the hero's rib, and a door hinge, or some dirt, I don't know. May have been a bit dramatic about how far it went.

I'm still sad that "I Was Reborn as a Vending Machine" was cancelled. We've had 3 "I was reborn as a magical hot spring (where girls can bathe in me and get a power-up)," but they couldn't finish the PG-13 version of the gag because everyone lost interest (it wasn't lewd enough).

Well, there's more to that story. The LN was canceled, but the Manga actually I continued, and the anime has a confirmed season 3, I believe.
