Star sector is an absolutely fantastic game.

Props for Tales of Immortal and Sands of Salazaar. I loved Tales of Immortal. I'd latch onto NPCs and drag them from the beginning of the game all the way to the end.

Some of my recommendations:
  • The Longest Dark
  • The Farthest Frontier
  • Kenshi
  • Project Hospital
  • Elin
  • Amazing Cultivation Simulator
Honorable mention, because it's not quite obscure at the moment: Where Winds Meet

Can I point out most of y'all posted some really popular games that didn't slip through people's notice? They are good games but definitely not hidden gems.

My list in no particular order:
Atomic Punk (Game Boy)
Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction (PS2)
I-Ninja (Gamecube)
Beyond Good & Evil (Gamecube)
Samurai Western (PS2)
Skygunner (PS2)
Over The Hedge (PS2)
C.O.P.: The Recruit (DS)
Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars (DS)
Tokyo Beat Down (DS)
Scribblenauts franchise (DS and 3DS)

Despite owning a PSP I can't remember most of the games I owned in it.

scribblenauts unlimited esp if you can come out with unhinged solutions like giving baby stork to a stork and it end up delivering its own baby

So basically Murrica, The Game?

Lumionous Arc for DS, and Stella Glow for 3DS. Great games, but overshadowed by bigger releases, especially Stella Glow. But a SRPG with dating sim elements on the 3DS, while Fire Emblem exists?

Rune Factory series, especially 3 and 4. The progenitor of the blight that is "games with farming elements", but most people only know Stardew Valley, so RF gets stamped as "anime Stardew", even though it was there way before SV. Heck, RF started to run as "A fantasy Harvest Moon (now known as Story of Seasons)".

Ar Tonelico, especially 1 and 2 for the PS2, were true gems for JRPG fans. The soundtrack is something I'd put on the same level as the Nier games.
I respect these. I get butterflies remembering old ds games

Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction (PS2)

Man BOTH Mercenaries games were amazing. I wouldn't mind getting remakes of these, shame it'll never happen. They didn't become the big blockbuster hits they would need to have been to get remakes.

Megaman Battle Network is one of the most GOATED franchises of all time, completely under the radar even though it was INCREDIBLY ahead of it’s time, and has a surprising amount of social commentary—especially when it comes to A.I and tech. The gameplay is also super fun. We’re pretty much a couple years away from Battle Network going from techno-fantasy to near-reality. I can’t believe Capcom just let it die. You can just tell they don’t play their own games.

Commander Quest
(by KR devs) (very fun roguelite)

Thing is. This game is a roguelite masterpiece (even if you like or not roguelites or dislike card roguelites)

The reason its so good, and a hidden masterpiece is that the devs are KRs.

Thx to the fact devs are asians (KR),
they dont have the masochistic trait of western devs (dark souls sooo guuuuud, everything must be haaaaard, painnnn gooooodddd nyehehehehe) nor they have this bad habit of "balancing IS MOST IMPORTANT" (praise our lord and savior the balance god, we must make everything sucking and bad so everything is equal to the the balance god eyes. Doing that, its maybe possible to create a global E-sports of our game !!! Yeah!!!!)

After beating 1 time the game, there is a node called : Wacky Works Lab. (Mad scientist kind of lab with a big syringue)
What does it do ? Well ! You basically select a "card" (unit) to experience a mad surgery.
And you basically upgrade something among 3 choices. Speed? Dmg? Health? Number of units? RANGE ? (even if you are melee you can!) COST?
But also suffer a malus (Cost+1, Speed reduce by 2 but cant be lower than 1, Hp reduce, etc) among 3 choices.

"Booooh, just an upgrade ! and it even get a downgrade!"
No, that is the thing. It is JUST ONE. ONE UPGRADE.
That (1) can break the common logic of the normal gameplay.
(Hey this unique cost a lot, but only summon 1. WTF ! THERE ARE NOW 2 UNITS!)
And (2) you can encounter MULTIPLE mad lab nodes. Meaning you can totally go bonkers on a unit (or multiples).
-----------
To tell one personal example.
Is the Super-slayer goblin squad.

By itself normally, Unit cost 1. You get 13+ mobs group. And it got 1dmg/1hp. Its weak as heck. But a lot. Passive : After using it, create a copy card in deck.
After multiple "surgeries" : Cost 0. Speed 5 (as fast as cavalry). Range 3. (Melee is 1 btw). And the best finale : ATK SPEED 8(MAX)
Things is, devs didnt care how broken having 8atk-speed is. (even some normal mechanics allow to get there)
Your unit attack like a machinegun or a JP/CN swordsmaster blurry flurry of attacks.
Combo final : RELIC : 3% of instant death when dealing dmg.

How would you feel, seeing a HORDE of goblins, being as fast as THE FLASH, somehow hit you with sword qi (range) with DOZENS OF HITS in one second, and depending on luck one hit causing your instant death with high probability ?

Well, the game gave up seeing my bs.
=I broke the game.
There is a "endless mode" where you fight a "infinite strengthening sheep commander" to check your dps. (Bigger hp tank unit + Higher Dmg unit number 2)
But because i can instant kill, and range attack. I bypass the "growing hp". And because its ranged. I bypass the dmg of enemy (cant die if it cant hit you).

Examples of gameplay :

PS : A game where fun > balance
(devs want you to break the game)
