Interesting - had never heard of that before (but then haven't been in a comic shop since issue 3 of Godzilla vs. Kong vs. Justice League dropped).

You should read it, Batman is a 7 feet muscle Mountain and fights eldritch horrors and punts children.

Grimdark

Grimdark is a dark fantasy with a gloomy, dark, traumatic, corrupt, and hopeless atmosphere.

The characters are usually broken, cynical, and corrupt or morally gray (including MCs).

In general, the moral of this fiction is very nihilistic, emphasizing how broken the world is to the point that there is no hope left, only an endless cycle of darkness.
almost sounds like a dark, gritty, hardboiled noir... just applied to fantasy and the volume knob turned up. I mean, fantasy noir or fantasy dark noir would have made me think of pretty much this definition. you know, the corrupt, ugly city with all its corrupt ugly inhabitants. Just switch that to fantasy.

There was a game with a few novels and a shortstory collection called "Bloodshadows" that pretty much was this. Grim fantasy noir. The "Adjective Metal Noun" series by Glen Cook (Petty Pewter Gods, etc.) kind of dabbled in this but was more light-hearted.

yeah, this is a modern trend. Make up a new word, a solution in search of a problem. Isekai would be better served with calling it "reincarnation". Or even Isekai reincarnation to separate it from what the word normally vonveys. As it is, you see the word if you're new and go what the hell. Like Yuri was even needed. It exists solely as a way to say "lesbian action" without parents or friends knowing what's up. I don't care about this naming trend, its on my "whatever dude" list. Its just annoying. It prevents new WN authors from putting tags and descriptions on their stuff. I wonder what the asian word for thriller or mystery will be, that will be the next one to go. I'm kidding, but...
