No self-respecting artist does that. I have never, ever in my life as a writer, have seen a real artist commenting like that.

It's either a bot or a scammer.

Yeah, you'll get these occasionally.

They'll even follow your account to make themselves seem more sincere.

Next time, tell them you charge an upfront fee to license, or adapt your work, since they came to you, not you to them, and will require a portion of whatever they earn from that license.

I always reply, "I welcome all fanart, but I will not be paying to have fans make art of it. I appreciate the interest, however."

They're scammers, but engagement does help, regardless, so...

Oh, I go harder on them. I call them out for the talentless hacks that they are. They try to deescalate things by saying they are a "Pocket friendly" artist trying do us a favor. That's went I go off on them and am really mean, especially the hacks on Wattpad, because somehow a majority of them have accounts in Texas. I'm sure it's a VPN thing.

Anyway, it's cheaper to use an AI generator to create your characters or cover, and if you make money from readers, is when you should consider hiring an artist to properly create your characters and covers.

Anyway, I haven't gotten a comment from a "Pocket friendly artist" in a while. So I haven't had that much fun with one for a few months.

if I have one push back, that's when I get harsher. Most just accept that I'm not falling for the scam, and I get a little engagement, so bonus.
