Would it actually be any worse than life on Earth? I mean we basically already live in a dystopia while trying our hardest to ignore the fact. I don't think we'll ever be invaded unless an alien race has already lived on this planet and has observed us for a very long time, knows our strengths, weaknesses, etc. The idea of an alien race coming out of nowhere only to conquer just doesn't hold up, since these aliens races would likely be of higher intelligence, and wouldn't go gung-ho on a planet it doesn't understand.
