Analytics Question: How steep a drop is reasonable between chapters 1-2

Understanding that not everyone who reads my crap is going to like it, how much of a drop in viewership should I see between chapters 1 and 2?

I currently see a 42.6% decrease. Is that a little, a lot, or what?

I guess so. Mine's about 15%. I guess your first chapter isn't aligning with your synopsis. Like it's not meeting the reader's expectation of what the book's going to be about. Just a guess

Some people only skim the synopsis. Some only read the prologue. Some only read less than 10 chapters. And the ones who remain are the loyal readers of your fiction... and their numbers are very small unless your fiction is popular with millions of views and thousands of bookmarks.

Personally, I enjoy the creative process of writing more than analysing engagement, which can sometimes be frustrating.

Without any input as to why, the numbers mean nothing. Now if you hit one of the 'magic number' points and see a spike followed by a huge drop, THAT probably means something (but, again, without feedback, exactly WHAT it means is just guesswork)

Sorta. On average, I would expect the same proportion of non-significant "readers" on all titles. So a difference between titles is still meaningful

Problem is I still don't know how to write the synopsis/blurb without spoiling the story

Linked are the beginnings of my two works... other than a few anomalies, I would suspect you will see a significant fall off. My latest chapters are in the 60s and only have a 100-200 views at most, /shrug

I have about a 35% drop from chapter 1 to 2. but I also have about a 98% fallout from chapter one to my most recent chapters. So meh. The +20 or so that keep coming back are the ones I'm writing for. That, and I just enjoy writing. If you're here to just look at the analytics... you're going to drive yourself crazy trying to write only for what's meta, or what's popular at the point in time. Like Fashion writing. Believe me, the fashion business is hard.

Just write. most of those views are going to be bots, or curious people running by that will probably only read once in a blue moon, or other writers who are going to spend more time writing than reading, or people who read, but only read while taking a bath, or taking a dump, or while they have a moment between taking care of kids, work, cleaning, or trying to have a life. Just write.

Write, and complete your book. Move on to the next book. And the next. And the next. Life goes on. One will hit eventually. Don't bother looking back. Continue forward. Write some more.

So many consistent hearts.. I'm jealous.

Most of my chapters only get a few hundie views with very minimal hearts if any.
All the hearts go to the very few lewd chapters, and those get like ALL the views in my book. Like.. its VERY clear which chapters do the best. and I don't even think I'm that good of a lewd writer!!!!! sadge.
