What would your fantasy story be if it were set in a real-modern world setting?

Is it possible for your story to be set in the real-modern world without any supernatural or fantasy elements at all?

For example, one possible funny scenario is if Lord of the Rings were set in our world: Frodo would be North Korean, the One Ring would be a Samsung phone, and Sauron’s army would be South Korean.

One does not simply walk into Seoul.

K-pop Nazgul. They were once men.

If Star Wars were set in a fictional Earth empire, the once-republic nation would turn into a corrupt empire under an iron fist. The Jedi would be highly skilled martial artists.

If Gundam were set in the real modern world, instead of a war with giant robots, it would be a corporate battle between the Federation Corp. and Zeon Corp., with their newest plastic robot toys trying to sell well in the market.

For my story, it will be about a traumatic survivor trying to find his place in a new peaceful town, after the Abyss phenomenon destroyed his hometown. Instead of monsters, the Abyss is an EMP storm that causes massive blackouts.

No! I don't want to imagine a real world where we're back in the Middle Ages with tyranny and feudal laws that enslave humans like cheap meat. It would be horrifying. And indeed, our world has experienced some of the darkest chapters in its history. But I never hoped or imagined that it would return.

My fiction is just a reminder of a forgotten dark history that makes us realise the importance of human values in an increasingly mechanised modern world. But bringing it to life in the real world? It should happen again.

Eh, I could import the character's personas, but there really is not a non-fantastical analog for dungeon core (I am including sapient AI as being fantastical).

Nyx could still work as a highly trained PMCs with premium asking price.
Cylene is a dictator, and it has been shown how willing she is in wrangling those beneath her. Both are messed up girls, both are willing to get dirty one way or another, and both loves sweets.
Nyx is getting better, even stopped finding stimulation from bloodshed. Cylene is still early in her development.

A country boy goes to a city where he receives a subscription(system) to a lootbox(gacha) and starts writing a prophetic manga about spy girls saving the world from a terrorist organization while not knowing that the girls had a listening device(hearing inner voice) while dealing with relationship problems, an ex who tried to murder him and a lot of anime troupes of being a harem protagonist while trying to sign an oath of celibacy by becoming a priest.

I never thought about it, but yea, I guess so?

Two strangers, young Alabama-country girls fall in love, and soon enough, get hitched; Turns out, they're sisters.
One night, during a party, the younger sister's family home accidentally catches flame, and in a matter of moments, spreads into a wildfire.
Young, and afraid of the consequences of their actions, they run away together, but the older sister (MC) is between homes, and currently homeless; Waiting on her next paycheck for an apartment.
Through the City's Mayor lead investigation (wanting to be re-elected), she finds out their names, and puts out a warrant for their arrest charging them for Crimes of arson against the city, and the burning of nearby forestation.
While on the run from the law, and in hiding, the love interest finds out the Mc is trans. While revealing secrets, Mc also explains she's previously been married to another woman before falling in love with them (The new love interest).
They find themselves in a bit of trouble, and continue to run from their problems, bumping into someone who... looks just like Mc, except.. tiny? Apparently, Mc had kids, and finds out, their demented ex-wife is threatening those very children with harm. Our Mc leaps into the arms of a courtroom, and fights for custody of the kids they never even knew they had! But.. the law is slowly failing them. The ex-wife has incredibly evil, yet knowledgeable lawyers, and continues threatening harm to the children behind closed doors. All-the-while, the new love interest is wondering if she has any real place in our MC's life, questioning everything.
Meanwhile, the Mayor, hearing about the court trials on the radio, is on her way to throw them both in jail.

Sure. Coffee-shop AU where the cute, fumbling barista is fugitive special forces operator hiding her cPTSD under latte foam art. Could work.

Aside from my main characters being born in an alternate world, the main difference would be that my cast would actually have to spend their lives working a 9 to 5 rather than becoming a supernatural adventure so it would be like a sitcom at that point. Office drama and silly trips with less ghosts.

I haven't put forth any of my pure fantasy stories and the ones I have shared are all set at least partially in something close to the real world.

If I ever get around to writing "Assassin King" or any of the "historical" Pyrroth tales, then it would be ... interesting. In the real world, Ashtarakh would be trained in martial arts, the use of poisons and other bio agents, and probably wind up a CEO instead of a king... And not date a werewolf,..
