Is it possible for your story to be set in the real-modern world without any supernatural or fantasy elements at all?
For example, one possible funny scenario is if Lord of the Rings were set in our world: Frodo would be North Korean, the One Ring would be a Samsung phone, and Sauron’s army would be South Korean.
One does not simply walk into Seoul.
K-pop Nazgul. They were once men.
If Star Wars were set in a fictional Earth empire, the once-republic nation would turn into a corrupt empire under an iron fist. The Jedi would be highly skilled martial artists.
If Gundam were set in the real modern world, instead of a war with giant robots, it would be a corporate battle between the Federation Corp. and Zeon Corp., with their newest plastic robot toys trying to sell well in the market.
For my story, it will be about a traumatic survivor trying to find his place in a new peaceful town, after the Abyss phenomenon destroyed his hometown. Instead of monsters, the Abyss is an EMP storm that causes massive blackouts.
