I feel like I'm going to miss 2016, so I'm determined to get there before I go to bed.

2015!

EDIT: I also await 2016, but I suspect Tempokai will post the song I'm holding on to before I can do so.

Nintendo might sue us if they catch us saying that.
The Nintendo patent is being blown way out of proportion... the patent they made is way more specific than everyone thinks it is, and won't have any affect on most other creature summoning games. Did they cross a line with the patent? Yes, they were not the first people to use that mechanic, and thus shouldn't be able to patent it. Is it really that bad? Eh, didn't stop Digimon from releasing in the same month Pokémon's new game is, and Palworld is still here.

Anon, you've been living under a rock. They submitted hundreds of new patents. They are trying to claim every mechanic that's ever been in any of their games. Despite losing the "summoning a monster patent," they won the "using monsters as gliders patent," and now they're even trying to patent "riding on top of a mount." Should they win, other games would have to pay Nintendo for the right to have the character in their games get on top of a horse.

For now.

Never trust big corporations that work in lock step with world governments. Even more so if they produce colorful happy sounding games with characters we've come to love because of our childhood and appeal to our lizard brains. Even more so if those characters are ubiqitous.

The core problem is that artificial monopolies on ideas are forming that will stifle independent artists and further render all entertainment media into corporate-state propaganda. I feel as if we are approaching the mid-point of this process.

Everything else of real value has already been pretty much monopolized. I'm hoping they don't also get to monopolize global culture and creativity, which has been the last gasp of freedom until now.

We are being manipulated, and not for our own good.
