Why do male harems dominate the genre while yuri harems are so rare?

I see male harems everywhere, but almost no proper yuri harems. And when they do show up, they often get reduced to parody or heavy fetish stuff.

That's why I wrote a pure lesbian harem novel that doesn't include all the futanari and male elements.

Do you think the genre is underrated, or simply too niche?
Why do you not see homosexual harems as often as straight harems? Because most people aren't homosexual. Gays are a minority. This has never NOT been true.

So this will obviously be shown in the numerical number of stories per genre. This feels like it should be obvious.

I've seen stories with GL poly relationship that don't add a harem tag because they don't want to be associated with the negative tropes of the harem genre, even though it's the closest widely accepted tag for stories like that.

Futa can be hit or miss. depending on how it's used. I count them under the female umbrella, but some stories focus way too much on it and can read like the character in question is a guy with boobs, when they are only using these parts and nothing else.

As another guy pointed out, there are less gay people. It is a statistical problem. Though, on scribblehub I would say that homosexuality is over represented than other sites or outside of the internet. GL has been popular on this site for years, and naturally you can make a popular gl harem novel.

I never noticed it ?. I usually read a lot of stories like that, but they are gender benders, so probably not what you're seeking. I also see stories of the genre sometimes on Korean websites, but I simply ignore them because it is not my niche. But I'm glad you're making ScribbleHub richer with your story. I was surprised because I already knew your story from browsing randomly on the site. I think the reason is the same as why I don't read it. This is not a common taste for most writers. I wouldn't mind writing it, but I probably would lack motivation in less than 5 chapters.

Either no one dares to do it without their work lumped together with the harem slop (edit: had to be specific) most web novel authors out here made, or it's inherently hard to make a proper GL polyamory without including a dick

This, I'm a futa author and I avoided adding the harem tag for months. Ended up caving cause I was missing out on clicks and there's not that solid of a definition on what qualifies as Harem vs. Poly anyway in media.

> Girls would simply pick a BL story instead.

Presumably queer girls are reading and writing GL?

One of the biggest challenges is that there isn't a romance target labeling system for a lot of the gender bender stuff. So everything gets put in one box. But its not actually 1 box.

Like some people like to read gender bender but still want to the romance targets to be their opposite gender. Another group wants either yuri or gay but not both. Like if someone picks up a gay story they aren't looking for women romance targets even if its labeled for lesbians. And this is vice versa. So if you were actually looking for something or your tastes... well not everything is going to be your preference just because its labeled gender bender or something like it.

It'd be easier if when you picked it up it would say, 'romance targets are... the following' whenever something is labeled gender bender or you know... stuff along those lines. To help people find what they are looking for.

I used to sometimes like to read gender bender stuff, until it changed so much. And its a mistake to have the main character have EVERYTHINg that moves as a romance target. This creates confusion with readers tastes. In the old days gender bender was usually more PG rated. Now its very the opposite.

Bro the biggest consumer of yuri has always been dudes. It's only recently that girls are being more into yuri. Same with yaoi fans mostly being girls.

Readers? Maybe modern female readers are more open to GL stories. But Writers? Queer women have been around for a while.

As a het male reader, I'm sort of trying to support the queer female writers and readers who are out there but who I don't really know socially.
