On a site such as this one (Scribble Hub) I have often seen discussions on how smut does/doesn't dominate the front page or site or whatever. Pornography in all mediums has seen a wide spread over the last few decades, and it's obvious why. But that's not exactly what I am here to discuss at all.

I want to know whether people here think the normalization of adult entertainment is a good thing or not. The poll above is anonymous for this reason, I want people to answer truly without having to embarrass or out themselves. Of course, you can post replies if you have strong beliefs in this area and wish to argue in one way or another or to state your opinion and reason openly.

I saw this video a little while ago, but seeing it mentioned somewhere else kindled this idea to start this thread here. Have a gander if you are interested on some more intellectual discussion. (I cannot provide that.) It is based more on the mainstream publishing world in America, but i think the ideas will hold true more widely.

My personal belief is that porn is evil and should be banned. It is hard to elaborate on the reasons, as religion is not acceptable to post about on this site. However, porn not only destroys individuals but also societies. My opinion on a little smut is that it ruins the whole thing. If I wanted to read porn I would go read a porn book. stop sneaking it into an otherwise normal story.

So anyways, what is Scribble Hub forum's opinion on this matter?

Ban violence first.
Ma'am, that will remove my reason to even read

Monetizing porn is ok. Going whole hog is not.

Excess is never good. I am in my mid 30s, I need to crank it to get it to stiffen. I like porn, I don't like too much of it and when I don't feel like it.

Some form of barrier on porn is nice because showing it to kids is not good. That is how you get me, *insert generic incel insult that you wish*.

Also, this feels like the issue of legalizing cannabis all over.

I am not for or against porn. It is a thing that exists in literature. I am not necessarily for other forms of porn, but I think it should be allowed to exist in literature, and people should be allowed to criticize it. Just like how they criticize vampire novels for being cringe or whatever, people should be allowed to do the same thing for porn.

Fiction is fiction ultimately, and reality is different from fiction fundamentally. I think people should be able to write whatever they want so long as it doesn't violate a country's laws. I think stopping forms of free expression is always a downhill slope into tyranny, and tyranny is only good when you're the tyrants.

No, ban stupidity first, and a lot of violence will cease to exist.

Also, any kind of censorship of any kind can go fuck itself. We don't need censoring. What we need are human beings that finally figure out that just because they don't like something, doesn't mean they have any right to keep anyone else from liking it.

I pray the next generation of super, immortal babies will grow up to see the light. ?

I personally don't mind porn in literature, but smut has become synonymous with poorly-written stories for a reason. It's everywhere, and it feels cheap.

I'm a sucker for romance. I want to see stories where kindness is rewarded and where love conquers all, but we live in a world where everyone is obsessed with short-term pleasures and kindness is seen as a weakness. Nobody seems to try to 'make it work' anymore. People are used and discarded if they inevitably fail to meet estupdily overinflated expectations, and that's just sad. But the media we consume, whether it's books, TV shows, or movies, is not the cause, but simply a reflection of our current society.

But even so, I believe that censorship is not the way to go.

Not a huge fan of it, but I've dated women who were and occasionally got me to write some for them, so it has its place, I guess.

First, smut =/= porn.
Definition:
Erotic work of fiction that’s mainly targeted toward females. Smut stories often gives heavy focus on love and relationships between the main characters.

That said, I'd love to see more porn on the site. Not because I'm not satisfied by smut, but because I want to laugh at the haters. Thank you for coming to my

Usury destroys societies and is condemned much more than anything. Anyway, I'm not a fan of censorship. Lots of people don't like certain tags and if a story is appropriately tagged then it should be easy to avoid.

"The satanic verses" led certain theocracies to order a hit on the author. So yeah, anything that advocates for censorship I'm weary of, obviously laws need to be followed but other than that it is a slippery slope to advocate more and more for censorship.

That is why quoting a dictionary and using broad terms that covers a full spectrum content weakens the point.

I think you need specificity.

Not dictionary definitions.

Oh, you're right about that. I hate how complaining about literally everything is so fashionable lately. If I watched every video like that, I would probably have to abandon the internet entirely... Not that I'm far from that point anyways.

It seems like every time I log onto the forum, someone is complaining about something stupid or something that I actually like, while hypocritically proselytizing about things they know other people don't like or aren't interested in. It makes me feel like I'm not allowed to have an opinion, and it makes me wonder why I bother coming back. (The answer is memes. It's exclusively memes.)

To be fair, the definition of smut you provided does apply to what I'm talking about correctly, so I should have thanked you.
including you in that above reply was a mistake on my part.

A video titled "the Absolute Degeneracy of Modern Writing" already strikes a chord and makes me not want to give that video creator engagement. The thumbnail doesn't help either. All the books seem to be written by women. So, presumably, the creator's take is that novels written by women, for women, are degenerative.

Anyway, porn is fine.

The idea that it's some great evil is ridiculous. Sex work has been around since the dawn of time. Making the claim that it destroys societies is... quite something. Societies aren't brought low because of porn. They collapse because of conflict, famine, disease, greed, corruption, etc. But people jorking it to an isekai harem novel isn't a cause.

The simple solution for those who hate smut is to not engage with it. Look at tags and content warnings. Hell, block them if you have to. I have some genres hidden through Release Filtering. Just because I don't like them doesn't mean they should be banned. You're responsible for curating your own space online. That, or find a platform that aligns with your views. There are plenty that don't allow adult content.

I had assumed wrongly this is just a causal conversation. And I didnt need to do any homework.

I will see myself out, I of the common ilk have no place in these dizzy peaks of high intellectual pristine white towers.
