I dont know, they should be teached in general american history. I mean they are part of it. Like kennedy murder or george washington as first presidency. I dont get it.

Why you taking L king and Malcom X?

The top brass at college would prefer if such heroes were appreciated privately and quietly in a somber library, rather than in a full class of ambitious young lads. Everyone expects the class to be discarded soon because of administrative bias; Professor admitted as much herself. I wanted to sign up for this class while I still had the opportunity. Besides, student enrollment continues to decline even thought the pandemic is over so a certain number of offered classes must be axed no matter what. The anthropology and chemistry departments in particular are facing dramatic budget cuts and probable layoffs. Why chemistry? 1.0M-AgNO3 solution is not cheap after all!

Jesus. Chimistry is important, history not that much really. And excuse my cinicism but the word "hero" should not be used. The term "historical figure" is more apropiated, there was nothing heroic on Martin Luther king or Abraham lincoln. You see I have been on this earth for a while now, I have learn that people are assholes and do horrible thigs, some on name of virtue, some in name of wickedness, but they all asshole the same.
My advice (although no one asked for it). Dont waste your time learning useless stuff, that is a hobby, like reading a novel. The problem with history is, it is writen by the winners, or is heavily biased by the interest of those teaching it or writing it. You never read the truth.
Learn practical stuff you can use in the future. You are young, you think you have all the time in the world... Well you dont. More than half my life is already gone, and used my time wisely (I like to think that at least) and still, a lot of it was wasted in useless crap.
