Several hours ago, there was a huge outage of Youtube for several people, only, it wasn't an outage, rather a blockage put in place forcing people to sign in to "prove they are not a bot," just to watch any video as a guest. While it's already lifted for now, I think many people can see the desolate future that site is heading for. They're experimenting with aggressive captchas and want to implement facial ID requirements in the near future. Some of us may not care, but many more of us are just done with it.

Let's pin a good long list of alternative sites here. I need some ideas myself since I may stream in the near future.
List anything that is good for videos/streaming, and isn't youtube.

I'll go first with what I've heard.

> Twitch
> Rumble
> Odyssey
> D-Tube

What kind of entertainment are you searching for? Every day videos produced by ordinary people?
  • Vimeo still exists.
  • Archive.org has many homevideos.
  • Bilibili and Youku have some English and subtitled content,
  • As does VK Video.
Or you can simply stop watching videos and opt for other entertainment. Music, cinema, and TV are readily available.

Do any of those have a function similar to YouTube Kids that allows parents to approve specific content for their kids rather than blocking countless things?

None of these sites have the ability to replace YouTube. YouTube is too big, people will comply, people are sheep. It would be like trying to replace water with fruit punch. it won't work.

I watch (or rather listen to) a lot of youtubers such as SomeOrdinaryGamers, Louis Rossman, Reddit Stories, Raging Golden Eagle, some V-tuber streamers, and other such things of this nature. While few exists on alt platforms, many do not. I'm also considering (wishing) for the day where I might finally launch some of my own content if ever I can get a single hour in edge-wise. I'm not looking for news and politics.
So, anything good for launching streaming such as Twitch is also recommended.

So far new ones I see are
> Vimeo
> Bilibili and Youku
> Minds?

Dailymotion sucks ~ never plays with any device I use for some reason.
Gab is... well it's got too many political things, sorry mate.

We gotta try mate; I don't got my fake ID for Youtube shorts yet ?
Next I will be asked to wire myself to a polygraph detector just to sign into my Microshaft account.

Go somewhere and watch something with your own eyes.
I have this disease sometimes where, when I walk outside to touch grass, I explode into millions of balls of light.

Nah, it wont work and people been trying it for years and nothing replaced Youtube and honestly Youtube is in the right.
In the right? I suppose they have the right to do whatever they want on this subject yes, but about half their viewership will leave in the process.
It's a step towards internet censorship, which is why I'm opposed to the direction in general.

Let me stop you there. Youtube had to grow, and Rumble already has 50 Million users and growing. Besides, Rumble creators keep 60% revenue compared to the 45% on youtube. It may have a smaller audience, but it's also newer. Youtube also had the support of Google.
honestly Youtube is in the right
Maybe it's a generational thing... but are you really say this? Like unironically? This has nothing to do with protecting children, its purely about control. It's gonna be used to silence opinions youtube doesn't agree with, we know this by youtube's own history of going after voices that don't toe a particular fringe narrative

I fully agree here.
Just because something is dwarfed by <Insert Big Tech Company> doesn't mean it is incapable of growing bigger in due time. Look at the Windows situation. Windows keeping moving closer towards taking away end-user control, freedom, and privacy, aiming for a fully 100% cloud-based AI-ran system. As a result, Linux has been gaining more popularity. It isn't an impressive number right now, but the principle is still similar. People who don't like the changes a big company makes regarding internet access with find alternatives, or workarounds where possible.
