tldr: i hope censorship reaches SH and all r18 work is pushed onto a subdomain (r18.scribblehub.com)

over the past few years ive been visiting SH less and less. it is not about the quality of works and more about the unnecessary sexualization in every other novel. novel search feels like digging in the dirt for something moderately not smut. ive seen some authors even using the tag for quick popularity but i am not going to filter through porn for the occasional story.

the way i see it is that artists are incentivized to write smut. the same braindead "plot" over and over. if not outright smut, it's softcore porn. the point is it has to be sexual. gooner infinite loop.

a perpetual cycle of low effort content. cant write good characters? give them big tits and talk about it every other sentence. cant write good dialogue? character interaction is now sexually driven.

i like royalroad's limitation on smut. i dont like the way they enforce it but there has to be a balance.

i bring this up now because of UK and US ban on sexual content. might be a good preemptive move to migrate heavily sexualized content onto a different subdomain. I think it'll be a fresh start for many.

There is not currently a US ban on fictional sexual content. If it's illegal in reality, it actually isn't illegal in fiction in the USA, unless it directly and greatly affects national security.(Joke: how would tiddies and NTR reverse harem smut actually affect national security? Find out more on my podcast: tiddies, and why you should fear for your life!)
Also, I don't like royal road, because somebody over there stole my username, about 5 minutes before I decided to make an account, and I haven't been back since.

Personally, I prefer to write and read "adult" material (with some sexual situations but little or no explicit scenes) myself.

Well, it seems to work that way in real life (at least back in high school and college...)

WHAT US ban? I know two or three STATES have removed "adult" content from PUBLIC SCHOOL libraries (not public libraries or book stores - despite what some critics insist - just public schools) but nothing even proposed (well, OK, outside of the idiotic soporific conservative masturbatory nonsense called "The 2025 Project") as a national ban.

No such thing.

Visa and Mastercard, which are private, international companies, are threatening to stop payment processing for companies like Steam and Itchi.io if they don't take down 'porn'/'adult content'. Country is irrelevant.

Oh, and because they are doing this in response to pressure from the hate group "Collective Shout", anything labelled LGBTQA+ is being put under the category of 'adult content' that needs to be banned. A whole lot of Indie romance authors had their works removed from itch.io because of this, and their livelihoods are now at risk.

So no, fuck censorship.

As an SH newcomer transplanted from RR, I'm interested to see how this plays out. My issue on RR was that the readership was not really my target demographic - 2:1 MMC:FMC indicates that it's not the most fertile ground for a second person POV sad lesbian mech fic, which I'm writing mainly for my gay ladies of the likes of Tumblr. Then I came here and was overjoyed to see the GL, trans, other LGBT tags available right off the bat. But I've definitely heard tell also of rumored dominance of PWP/erotica on SH - and while I do write the occasional mature scene, that definitely isn't the bulk or overarching tone of my story. I'm excited to see the enthusiasm for LGBT storylines and characters on this site, but I hope I won't be too out of place if I'm not writing erotica!

Please don't do this. Censorship of anykind just makes everything about anything bad. I like SH because it doesn't have that kind of strict restriction. I don't really care about smut if the story is solid then ,okay, I just skip over the corny parts.
Most author I read, put warning tags in the chapters or at the place it is.
I want to say more but my metro is leaving.?

i did not say removal. I said migration. A separate subdomain for porn.

Any type of censorship is wrong.
Censorship, for all intents and purposes, has been a global scam for hundreds of years.
What exactly is being prevented...?!
Did you know, to this day you can't ever get an honest, scientific, or logical answer to this question?

Because there is NO answer. We have been duped. As a society, we have become slaves to the Puritan and other religious zealots who for some reason honestly believe they can protect our children. That is the only reason for censorship.

Sorry. *^^* I did one of my Masters' thesis on censorship in the comic industry, so I have some rather vehement opinions on the topic.

Anyway, fuck censorship.

I think Boys love and yaoi should be censored because I don't like it.
This is how censorship began in the comic industry. Late one night, a man was visiting another's home and saw this comic cover:

Well, he wasn't going to accept that. He thought it was much too violent for kids, and soon a plethora of censors/editors were checking out comics left, right and center, to find out what could or could not be allowed.

All because one idiot decided he didn't want to see this image.

All because one idiot couldn't think for himself and say, "Well, I don't like this at all. But others might so I just won't buy the comic book."

Eureka.
