Ugh - looks like a bad idea sugarcoated to "protect kids" - doesn't seem to define what kind of "adult material" is being regulated (just sex? Violence? What the current government considers racism? anything the current government disagrees with? Or just anything Ofcom has issues with, even if the gov't is OK with it?), and doesn't say anything about the "independent" group Ofcom tasked with creating and enforcing its rules.

In fact, this right here is the first step to gaining control over people. First, you eliminate physical money in favor of virtual money, and then you collect everyone’s data through identity verification. This all boils down to a future where they’ll force you to use your ID when posting anything negative on social media. It’s called the 2030 Agenda—and enjoy having saved the Jewish bankers, because you are their slaves. (Thank God my country is so stupid it can’t even sustain itself, and we’d rather be China’s lackeys for trade deals.)

They don't need ID lol. Look into the company Palantir, whose first and only customer for years was the CIA.

You're right, but they do this as a cover so you don't pay attention to the real culprit.

It's a little insulting to have to prove i'm an adult at my age, honestly if people are so worried about kids seeing smut maybe their parents should do a better job watching them.
Well said, old Virginia guy. ?

So I live in the UK (Cringe, I know), but recently our government has released an online surveillance safety bill TLDR makes it so you must show personal ID to view "Adult" content. will there be any plans to enforce this act for uk authors and readers? Or will Shub do what some sites have done and block the UK from accessing this site?

The full act here: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/online-safety-act-explainer/online-safety-act-explainer
:meowsip:Which government?

Use VPN. Even if sites don’t do anything, the government will start banning sites.

Questionable law though, doesn’t stop children from sending and getting nudes in dms :blob_facepalm:

Questionable law though
Those laws are always stated by people who have no idea how the internet works. Or any other "slightly more advanced" technology that is not a typewriter.
It has no way of working, but they won't listen to people who know better.

The part that would worry me the most if I were in a country covered by this "act" is the section on "misinformation/disinformation" - because those terms are ALWAYS politically charged and change based on who is "reviewing" the data (or who is in power) at any given moment these days.

yeah but most parents never have the time or the energy or the awareness or even the concern to look over these things. They do the barest minimum for a child which is just feeding them and giving them a home to stay in
