I was reading this manga, and one panel describes a new princess character. "Gentle mannerisms that make you think of spring. A smile as warm as the sun. A voice that gives off alpha waves." That last one is not a good thing? Alpha waves refer to one of two things. First, it is an old name for alpha particles, which are generated by radioactive decay. They are also the name of electric waves inside a brain (detectable with an EEG) produced during light sleep. So either this princess has radioactive breath, or she is cursed to put everyone who hears her to sleep like a jigglypuff with a megaphone. Does anyone else remember any supposedly positive descriptions that instead are really bad news?

I suspect they mean she has a calming or relaxing voice and the translator was a bit too literal (or just careless).

I feel like the Japanese would know a bit more than some others about Alpha waves and their effects. Translator probably messed up or they were trying to use modern slang?

As far as the main question, I find that anytime a character is being sassy or sarcastic without any indcators of such leads to the same problem.
