Hey!

I just uploaded the first chapters of a new novel I’m working on, it’s a full-blown lesbian harem fantasy, with power-ups through intimacy, monster girls, magic, and one very dominant MC ?

But I noticed… It’s extremely rare to find stories here (or anywhere) that fully commit to female-only harems, where it’s not just for guy fantasy or a one-time Yuri tease.

So I’m honestly curious:

Why do you think that is?
Do readers avoid it?
Or do writers assume there’s no audience?

Would love to hear your take, especially if you've read or written something similar!

And if you’re curious, this is the story I just posted Kuina: Rise of the All-Girl Harem

It's pretty straightforward: Women tend to enjoy yuri when it's a single couple or multiple couples where everyone is monogamous. In the case of men, they often prefer scenarios with multiple partners for one person – usually one guy with many women.

In my case, I'm developing an otome novel that will include:

  • A gay male couple in the Greek tradition (think Achilles-Patroclus style),
  • A yuri couple,
  • And finally, a sibling pair (Long live the North!).

Now that you mention it, I can't recall seeing more than three full-on yuri harems, ever.
A Joytoy's Journey to become a Hive-Queen on SH. A harem of three, the MC and two other girls.
Zeroth Knight also on SH. But frankly, as far as I recall the relationships are bumpy at best. Don't remember it much though.
Technically Dragon's Bloodline through NU as well, though the MC is male reincarnated as female. Possibly turning into futa too, and falling into the "guy fantasy" category at the same time.

I honestly don't know why. There is a huge number of harems. There is a huge number of yuri stories. But apparently very few authors have any interest in writing stories that overlap both categories, and I don't believe it's because of lack of audience.

A lot of men enjoy yuri. In the famous words from someone whose name I forgot - "Two of the thing I like... together."

That makes sense statistically, sure but emotionally, I wanted to write something that doesn’t follow the usual logic.
I wanted a story where women love each other in a messy, powerful, layered way not limited to one-on-one tropes.
And based on early reactions? I think there is a quiet hunger for this kind of story.

Yours sounds unique too I respect bold choices, even if I’m taking a very different route ?

That’s exactly what I felt,
So many yuri stories go for monogamy, and so many harems follow male-centered tropes…
I wanted to flip that completely.

In my story the MC is a dominant female who gains power by loving, kissing, and bonding with multiple women and yes, they’re all into each other too ?

It’s not just for fun (though there’s plenty of that) it’s a world where desire = power, and the harem is a real emotional core.

You’re totally right: the lack of yuri harems isn’t about readers — it’s just that no one’s gone all-in on writing one.
I’m trying to change that ?
They are not rare at all.
Interesting! Personally haven’t seen many full yuri harems with multiple real relationships.
Would love to check out examples if you’ve got any in mind ?

I've never seen anything like that. About the closest story I could think of was Queen's Blade. ?

Rare? The most popular GL on this site is literally GL and Harem. You can look it up
This. Also, I personally don't read GL, so I can't recommend anything. What I can recommend however is use series finder and include harem and girls love. You as well exclude GB, bisexual protagonist and futanari, depends on what exactly you don't want to see. After doing all that you end up with 10 full pages of GL harems. If you do not exclude GB or futa you might end up with way more stories.

Appreciate the tip! But yeah, most of the "GL harems" that show up there are either teasing, genderbender, or involve futa/bi twists. I was more wondering about pure all-girl harems, where all 7–8 girls love and sleep with the main heroine, and it’s fully developed in both plot and emotion, not just hints.

From what I’ve seen (and written ?), that’s super rare. Most GL harems are like… 2 kisses and 3 jealous side-glances ?

I don't think 10 pages is super rare. If we include sexual content warning, it is 6 full pages, one page is 25 stories I think, so 150 GL+harem+smut sotries. Without bi relationships, futas, or GB. Obviously not all of those 150 stories are tagged properly though.

Btw, there are 30 full pages of NON harem GL stories that have no futa, GB, or bi protagonist. I don't know, if you put these numbers together 6 pages doesn't seem all that rare. But I see no point in arguing about it, I'm only here to provide numbers.

23 pages of GL harems. 4 pages once you exclude GB, bisexual protag and futanari, to get true GL harems.
34 pages of GL non-harem stories with the same filter
37 pages of Male protag harems without BL.
Roughly for every 10 straight male protag harems, there is one true GL harem, going by tags without considering the actual contents. And there are five times as many GL harems where the MC is a former guy, futa, and/or bi.

Honestly, it's more than I expected, but still a fairly low number.

:blob_hmm:Weird. I ended up with 7 pages(only 6 full pages). GL+harem+sexual content warning, -futa, -gb, -bisexual protagonis. I wonder if the site is lagging for me.

I see where the difference is. I was including "female protagonist" tag, and did not care about sexual content warning. Without female protag and with sexual content, I get 7 pages too. 10 without sexual content filter.

Interestingly, there are also 4 GL harems without GB, futa or bi protag that outright include male protagonist...
