Lots Of Views, But No Favorites, Where Am I Dropping The Ball?

Hey everyone! I’m still a newbie to all of this, so I’m trying to figure things out. My first story has gotten over 400 views so far, (way more then I thought I would.) but I don’t have any favorites or followers sticking around. I’m wondering where I might be dropping the ball.

Is it because I only have a prologue and two chapters up? Could it be that my cover or the story description is drawing people in, but the story itself isn’t hooking them once they start reading? Or is this just normal until you build up more chapters?

I’d love to hear any insights or advice from more experienced writers, or even just your own experiences when you were starting out. ?

You might check the stats. There's a section like 'real views' I think, that show how many people are reading for more than a minute. Its way lower than the total view count, at least in my experience. It might show how many are actually reading vs how many just gave it a glance and moved on, to your question of is the story not hooking people.

It might not seem like a lot, but honestly, it feels like a lot to me. I never expected to even get more than 10 views, so it already feels like a little accomplishment. I’m just happy people are clicking on it at all. ?

Understandable. This is how writing sites are, you aren't really popping off until you hit a number around 10k views. So having close to zero favorites, along with zero comments, reviews, and readers in general, is completely normal. It's really similar to YT in this. Only a small fraction of people comment, subscribe, and like videos. Same here.

It will take some time. If you've written something a lot of readers will like, then they'll come and visit eventually. ?

You have two chapters up. People generally only look at the synopsis and cover until you hit at least five, maybe ten (I tend to jump in when the chapter count is between those), and from that either add it to their "To Read" list or decide it's not for them. The few who need more "coaxing" to decide, will read the first few paragraphs, then jump back and make their decision then.
