Omnipotence, is I guess the word. I want it all.
Mostly so I don't have to feel like shit all day. But also so I can do all the things I enjoy, like reading, writing, playing games and watching videos.

That said, shapeshifting is always my top pick for 'limited' powers. I could change my appearance whenever I want. Also arguably gives me omnipotence, but I know that won't work for the lame people who insist everything should have limits.

For specific reasons, I'd want stuff like this:
Healing is a must have (though I can often fit it into shapeshifting). Cleaning (magic), being psychic, flight, teleportation, elemental magic, crafting.

I can see why you’d think that insisting on an ability having limits is lame but that’s what makes it fun. An ability with limits makes it so there’s more room for creativity and flexibility.

Like say you had the ability to conjure fire but your limit would be you can only conjure so much before your ability shuts down and cools off. This would require the user to work around that and apply different ways to use their ability. It would also require the user to be careful with how their ability is used. Now this is where the creativity and flexibility is applied at.

Mind control. Use it on myself to make my mind give me everything else. Changing my nature, limits and fate whenever I want, mhm.

I gotta go with the classic "invisibility". It's just op when not nerfed to have a counter. Speedrun dirt digging on the Rich and famous plz.
Invisibility is trash, even when compared to all the other classic powers before we started being creative.

Let's pretend like you're not blind; all you can do with it is be a criminal. That's the only way to make money, and there's nothing you can do with invisibility besides that, because sneaking past people is the one power. Even then, you'd still be picked up by infrared, animal security, and motion detectors, and you'd have no way of getting in and out of big vaults.

That being said, invisibility is pretty good when not considered a main power but rather an application of a different power. For example, light manipulation. You can bend the light around you to grant invisibility, but you also get lasers and force fields, maybe even hard light constructs.

You think a power that prevents your body from emitting and intercepting photons can be defeated by a machine that notices when your body emits or intercepts photons? Cause infrared light is a type of light, and most modern motion detectors rely solely on light too.

You can be creative without limits, too. That's why art is more fun than engineering.

This kind of limit exists to be broken. For example, instead of letting that limit define you, you would get an external power source to let the ability go longer before shut down- or you would burn yourself out and become a pure fire elemental that never needs to cool off.

The majority of limits exist so authors can feel smart for creating and solving their own puzzle. And sure, that's not necessarily a bad thing. IRL, I'd even take those scraps of abilities if it meant improving things. But you asked what we wished for... And I'll never wish for scraps like a dog. (No offense to dogs.)

If you do want to see how people interact with limits, you should set those limits beforehand. As an example, instead of asking what powers we want, assign a specific power and ask how everyone would break it.

I would want something like Ultraboy's power - any one power (plus all "side effects" needed to survive using it) at about 2% better than Superman, but only that one power (at a time).

Either that or a "key" device (Beta Capsule, Delta Plasma Pendant, special glassess) from a Giant of Light to become a form of Ultraman (but only for a limited time as the energy they get from the sun diminishes rapidly in Earth's atmosphere...)
The ability to talk to girls :blob_no:
Far more useful would be the ability to UNDERSTAND women (including girls)... but you'd probably have to be turned into one for THAT to happen...

You have a good point, that limit does exist to be broken, so the user can lengthen its usage. You’re right on the last paragraph but I generally expected people to have their own limits in mind. Usually that’s always a thing outside of stories and in them (in my case ofc).

You’re the first one who’s point out this flaw and I’ll keep this in mind. Kudos :)

I hard disagree. Also infrared sensor pickup is a nerf to the ability. As infrared is also just light.

An invisible man would be job hunted by every gov for investigation and/or espionage. Also, a solid anchor for ghost hunting shows.

Invisibility is only okay in a world where you're the only one with powers. If people can teleport, move at lightning-fast speeds, and disguise themselves to be whoever they want, those are simply better picks for espionage. People with enhanced senses, any psychic powers, and shapeshifters would also be better for investigation.

Being picked up by infrared also isn't a nerf; it's used for thermal imaging. You still have a heat signature when invisible; otherwise, you'd be constantly at risk of dying from hypothermia.

If anything, I buffed your trash power by saying you're not blind. You absolutely 100% without a doubt would be blind if you were invisible.

This greatly misunderstands infrared. The detectors are not detecting light; they're detecting infrared radiation or heat. Infrared is what allows us to see blackholes by monitoring the heat surrounding them (black holes themselves don't emit heat). We can also see the effects of warm air as it's emitting heat (Though there's a more reliable method for visualizing air flow) If you are emitting heat, you can be seen by infrared.

Bro, infrared is light. And your remote control uses it.

Can you imagine how much an illusionist like Blaine or Copperfield would pay to have you be a secret hand?

Also, no mosquito bites.

Besides, we aren't talking about how telekinesis works, why the mud slinging at my pick. You do realize that there are multiple ways of achieving any particular effect. City of Heroes did it best, you can tech, gene, or magic it. From that divided to mind power, innate power, active camo, force field, and even hypnotism. Superman's identity swap works on the latter even through cameras. Aizen from Bleach. Both innately invisible to normal mortals, and can actively choose to make others not see him.

Healing factor. But it works on the basis of how fatal the wound is. I fall and scrape my knee? It heals normally. I get shot in the head? It heals instantly. Fever? Im sick for a few days. About to get respiratory cancer? Suddenly I have the lung capacity of an olympic swimmer.
