Context: There is an object that someone in the family want to have.
I asked, "how much?"
Person said, "5,000 dollars or 1,000,000 points."
I asked again, "points?"
Person replied, "for every 1 dollar spent, you can earn 100 points. Once you amass 1,000,000 points, you can exchange for item."
I asked, "but 1,000,000 points means 10,000 dollars spent?!"
Person lied, "yes, but all the money spent is on things we need." We most certainly do not need those things.
Of course, I asked if it is possible to use points to offset the 5,000 dollars, to which I was given the rate of 1,000 points can offset 2 dollars. So yes, you need a total of 2,500,000 points to offset the total 5,000 dollars. But if you use point exchange, you only need 1,000,000 points.
I was pinching my nose bridge at this point.
