What’s your dream setting, the sanctuary from which you summon worlds?

Every creator has a hidden place, real or imagined, where stories are born and ideas refuse to sleep. Where is yours?

If you could build your creative stronghold anywhere, what would it look like? Is it a wind-battered coastal village, a sun-drenched balcony, a corner table in a midnight café, or simply a room that smells like books and rain?

Describe it. Taste the air, listen to the silence, feel what grows beneath your window. How would it shape the worlds you bring forth?

Here’s mine, for inspiration:

My Creative Sanctuary

My dream is to live in a small coastal village in Italy, with a population of a few hundred. I want to see the sea from my window and from my garden, where olive trees, willow (salix), magnolia (the big ones), and jacaranda stand guard.
A small vegetable garden in the back, and a little pond for ducks and fish. The salty air with every sunrise, coffee in hand, peace all around.
There, in the quiet, I’d conjure new worlds, each morning a blank page, each wave a call to write something honest, something felt. Each night, a cool breeze and the muffled music drifting from the village center, where small cafes and bistros come alive.
That’s my sanctuary, the place where stories would come alive.

What about you?
Paint us a picture of your creative haven, real or wild as you dare. Let’s share a little beauty, and see what worlds we could make, together.

A small 'manga cafe' in the Philippines called 'Tankobonbon'. Pity their book shop had to close coz of corruption.

Well I don't think it's quite as you've described for me. I don't really envision my ideas as coming from any place in particular or being made anywhere, usually they come about as I'm dissociating from some monotonous task by distracting myself with stories. That said, sometimes in those stories, I have a place of sanctuary or creativity, but those usually aren't for writing stories as they are about magic and artificing, or occasionally art and music (because why would I need to write a story when I'm already in one?)

A massive elemental tree surrounded by various biomes in a valley, it's in the middle of a lake, halfway up its trunk is a crystal sphere that it is growing around, its boughs form a color wheel of differently colored leaves. Atop it, from where it's branches stretch out, is left a space where there's a meadow around a pond, and there's a small cottage where I reside.

A castle that's also a giant magical array, with lavish bedrooms, and many rooms filled with creations.

A private workshop, it's not bright, there are several tables covered in various in-progress projects, a desk covered in papers with runes, magic formations, as well as sketches, lists, and ideas, on the desk as well there's some more devices to fiddle with. In the room there's mannequins for armor and clothes, there's room dividers sectioning off a bit of the room, within there there's a bed, rope, and various sculptures of lewd stuff (I'm sure you can guess what this part of the room is for).

A quiet study with a desk, little light except what comes through the window, and lots of books on bookshelves, some decorative plants, as well as more lounge-like furniture. There's a violin, and a piano.

I have a few more sanctuary places, but those are less for creating and more for relieving the burden of existing.

Funnily enough, I also get a lot of ideas from my literal dreams, it's a blessing and a curse because I get snippets of a story and I'm like I need more!? I need to see how this ends!? But the story doesn't exist and my dream was cooking but I don't know how to finish it and I don't want to write it I want to read it!

The sanctuary doesn’t have to be the literal place of birth of your ideas or books, rather a place where your physical form finds peace while the inner self is fed.

See the cover of "Between Worlds"? Notice the lattice of green lines? Triple the number, and insert anything from a single room to a full universe at each point where lines intersect, and you've pretty much got mine.

Imagine a waterfall in the middle of the forest, with the sound of birds, bugs and monkeys living as they will. The sound of the waterfall crashing against the rocks provide a white noise that sanitizes your mind from all the distress and horror of living in the city. Halfway up the cliff wall, a watermill provides power, as the sound of wood against wood goes clack-clack in a predictable timing, as if it were telling time by the second. The river under the waterfall is cold and clear, showing the smooth and beautiful river stones on the bottom hiding the nest of perch, bass and carp swimming lazily.

There is a carved wooden steps that lead up to the top of the waterfall, where a small wooden hut is built. You can sit next to the fast flowing river just closing your eyes and enjoy being a part of nature. Or you can sit at the top floor of the house, looking in the distance, above the canopy of tall majestic tropical tree, looking at the horizon of the sea far, far away. Or see the tall apartments of the nearest city and thinking to yourself, "Yeah I don't envy those guys."

Personally, my worlds came from our universe, Earth and the other world which is the setting is even in the same arm of the mily way galaxy, this way I can copy paste some explanation of the said arm and not think about lore too hard because I can use CMB (Cosmic Microwave Background, AKA first light that emerged during the big bang) as "The Light of Creation" and all that.
