I don't know if i'm the only one who has this mentality when i read fanfic i especially don't want to see the original protagonist interacting with the self insert character.I read fanfic in first place because i already hate the original protagonist, i don't mind the side characters but in my opinion the mc should be removed entirely from a fic.

Im not quite in the same boat.

If you are adding a self insert, do not insert into Canon storylines. That bothers me.

Do some after story content or something, and dont alter the source material if at all possible.

I do not want to read about your protagonist twin super powered better than the protagonist self insert. I dont mind reading new character self insert with new plotlines and such featuring existing characters.

Ai-chan's problem with fanfictions is that the self-insert characters are always portrayed as being better, smarter, and more capable with plot armour everywhere and that the original cast always look at them with awe and admiration (or antagonistic towards them out of inferiority complex). This Mary Sue trope is a common feature in most fanfics. It is super annoying and the reason why Ai-chan never read fanfics anymore since turning 25.

For example, Ai-chan read one Stargate Atlantis fanfic where a special forces soldier got stranded in the Pegasus galaxy and singlehandedly destroyed hive ships with homemade incendiary grenades. The author justified it that because the insides of the hive ships are squishy, it must be flammable. Ai-chan was like, "No, it's not, dude!" Like, have the author tried to set living tissue of fire? They don't burn because they have a lot of water inside. A single incendiary grenade wouldn't have any impact other than some scorch marks, which would eventually disappear because hive ships are biological and can regenerate their cells.

I don't read fanfiction anymore too, well most fanfic authors will always end up making their oc more powerful, intelligent, cunning, get all girls etc.
Oh boy, do I have a Harry Potter fanfic for you to read then!
Damn right, there way more harry potter fics than anything, there are like more than 100k fics in this brain rot category.when i search a startrek fic i get 5 results and 40 harry potter results inserted in the search.

You definately aren't alone in that opinion, I think it does kind of depend on the kind of story though. Some FFs can be really cool some well....are a pitfall unto rhe rabbit hole.

Personally I have to say though I find fanfictions fun (please don't kill me over that opinion) if they aren't completely overdone (the MC gets all the girls, it's completely out of context stuff like that) but do make sense or are written in a manner where the og characters are not treated as idiots but as actual characters.

Like reading an alt. version or some SI going haywire just for the fun of completely shutting my brain down and enjoying the ride sans Logic.

90% of fanfic are the rabbit hole you don't want but ther remaining you will find the best ones,i like reading fanfic when there is drought of anime, manga, mahwa, games etc considering i started with fanfictions before knowing the others.

It is sad but true, I'd really wish there were more fun to read ffs around that are not rabbit holes.
