Hello! Well, the question is pretty self-explanatory.

I had some feedbacks regarding my chapter length being too long so I'm currently trying to trim down the chapter by splitting into parts and cutting a lot of fat from it.

Hence, my question. What do you think a chapter's length should be to not be too long?

Crap my first part is still 4 200 words.

I'll see what I can do.

Thanks for the opinion!
1500-4000 words, depending on the scenes and the impact.
In my case, it's just 7 characters talking in a car in Houston. (because it's a dialogue-heavy thriller about criminals.)

However, I think it might be too long for an introduction so thanks for the opinion. I'll see if I can cut it even further.

1000-1500 for daily updates excluding weekends.
3000-5000 for weekly updates.
Haven't thought of that but it's true it could also depend on the time between updates.

I guess I first need to finish entirely rewriting the chapter before deciding on how to split the parts and when/how to publish them.

7 characters in 1 chapter is too much for the reader, even the criminal thriller. Unless 5 of them have short dialogue with MC, just to establish context, it's rhetorically dead. People in webnovels don't care as much about the side characters (unless you accidentally outshine them instead of MC), only about MC and/or other lead at first. Not every character is important enough for the first impressions. Webnovel readers look out for the compelling characters to follow, and whdn everyone tries to outshine the other, no one will stand out.

According to PocketFM, chapters must be between 1000 and 3000 words, and SHOULD be between 1500 and 2500... Mine tend to range from 800 to 4000 though on first drafts (with most around 2k) so... whatever feels right to you as the author.

3k words per chapter. But I cut it into 3 parts, one part is 1k words. So it’s easier for have frequent updates than dumping it all at once.
