I just finished editing the first part of my first chapter, and decided to let it run though an AI checker. It was just around 650 words, but I'm proud. (the text shown in the photo is just a part...)

Heh. I don't know if these AI-writing checkers are trustworthy or not, but with how bad I structure my own writing, I'm pretty sure the checker would list this with a negative-percentage

As far as I can tell; including having talked with artists who are super anti-AI, the 'AI writing checkers' are only truly consistent with larger bodies of text and when a significant portion has been generated with AI. They don't 'know' what AI text looks like, they are using patterns that have come up in AI writing to decide if something looks that way.

For the most part AI writing has a few traits it picked up since academic documents tend to be a majority of the training data that it really doesn't like when I use stylised 1900s writing, enough that I've gotten all inside my head and rewritten the same story 3 times due to frustration before I was told to chill because those checkers aren't that good.
The brass bell above the door, a relic from before London fell, tinkled out softly as the final customer of the day petered out of Juliettes’ small sanctuary.
As if greeting the bell, the white-blue lights flickered momentarily before a harsh yellow-orange light began bathing the outside streets. The abrupt shift rousing Juliette from her workspace.
This fragment here, because of the style I'm intentionally writing in; flags for AI 100% of the time when I put in full passages, even though I've rewritten the thing a total of 4 times before crashing and throwing the attempt to the side. It is being written with older words, with atmosphere including the rhythm and tone but it will be constantly flagged just because I'm mimicking a writing style from 1850-1900s

If I had to put it into words what they look for, usually it's looking for sentences to be a set amount of words and usually tacking on modifiers after the fact. Oh and em dashes; my pet peeve for how uncommon they are in literature since they are academic punctuation for the most part till AI decided to 'introduce' a bias that made people learn they existed and could be overused. Words like 'however' and 'moreover' tend to be hyper common along with a few other words because they are constantly present in the training data from essays, papers and documents all of which that had editors or style guides.

Theres also some words that are 'inhuman' but that highly depends on the writer and their actual knowledge of english but can still feel super out of place when put into a webnovel because it means they are missing the point of their target audience of this website; who might not be english first language, to then use more complex words.

Yup it's always nice when things work out like that, I guess I forgot to hit the reply button on Envy over there in regards to the highlight stuff and the actual checker results.

One of those situations where it's nice if it says nothing, but shouldn't be taken seriously if it over estimates. AI checkers have probably killed a ton of web novels due to causing distress over the perception of an otherwise valid story.

I'm also just contractually obligated to say at least 3x the amount of text a normal reply would require to upkeep the long-windedness of my 'persona' (That is a joke). Either way don't mind my ramblings too much.

People will say whatever they want, regardless of if you can prove to them. I worry about a lot of random scenarios in my head. One of them is people accusing me of AI writing. I don't even use Grammarly, but the reason I had this thought is my use of words like lattice or traipse. I use words that are often seldomly used by people. Not only that, I use 'moreover, however, etc.' I even use the typical em dashes, but readers who been with me a while know I always used those.

It's just part of my worrying that people will accuse me of things, which is not even unfounded. Since I get some dummies who will accuse of things when they have no idea.

Also, my writing style on the forums is completely different from when I actually write a story. Again, I know they are all a bunch of pointless worries, but I will worry regardless.

"What the hell are you doing?" has been taken from us!!
Tch. AI gets more shameless day by day!

The best a person can do is not care, some authors are already terrified of using em dashes!
I am some.
Edit:
Luckily, my vocabulary backs me up. I wish it were broader, but in cases like this, it might not be such a bad thing.

Someone will 100% think you are serious. Also, this can't be me, since I'd never be caught using light mode on forums. The only reason my pics above are in light mode is because the dark mode of those pages made the highlights completely hide the text.

hey! you're not even a week old
I've literally been on this forum for over two years. I just never had an account because I never really needed one. But now that I'm writing myself, I figured it could be useful to finally join and connect with fellow cultivated ones.

No need to explain; I was just joking; sorry if my intentions weren’t clear
