Kirishima Ejirou from My Hero Acadamie one of the most beloved and grounded characters, who's backstory makes sense and doesn't come with some bullshit power instead like Rock Lee he worked hard to rise beating himself with a metal pipe to become stronger and what I'm glad about is in the end unlike Rock Lee he's recognised and his efforts pay off as he ranks as the number 12 hero.

He's the "masculine" character in the anime, not toxic but done right, supportive and working on himself to become better. He's weak and realises that and still pushes himself further, the hero he idolises in the show is the quote, "As long as a man’s got a chivalrous heart, his quirk’s got nothing to do with it! Which is why I’m training with all my might to make up for my quirk."

And that makes me recall Rock Lee and Guy's relationship and character in Naruto, that with enough effort and training, you can become great.

He's not the most complex character, a bit more one-dimensional at times, but he's well loved. Bro's just a regular guy with a decent defence quirk surrounded by people destined for greatness and his passion, despite knowing that it is worth respect.

A few for different categories

Siffrin from In Stars and Time, depicts spiraling mental state plus unearthing past trauma in a way that’s raw and real without laying it on as thick as angst fanfics.

Erind from REND for being the most complex and unique without feeling fictionalized.

Tofu from Super Minion on being an unrivaled nonhuman character concept and execution

Kayo from Erased out of pure nostalgia and for harnessing whump energy so intensely while not becoming a shallow character

Phosopholite from Land of the Lustrous for best character progression.

Sans from Undertale for fulfilling so many different roles and tones simultaneously and with amazing execution.

Out of my own characters, it would probably be Henry Rider just because of how realistically fledged out she is. She's bright and cheerful, always cracking jokes, but can be serious when she needs to be. She's fiercely loyal to her friends and family, but can still feel jealous, or bitter, or betrayed, and lash out at the people she cares about just like a real person. In some scenarios she's dumb as a rock, but in others she's a tactical genius. She can be loving, cold, caring, cruel, confident, and vulnerable, and it all feels natural instead of contradictory. Sometimes I find it hard to believe that a hack like me managed to write a character like her.

And have I mentioned how incredibly humble I am?

When it comes to other people's characters, I'd probably give it to Vin from Mistborn. With characters like Rey, Captain Marvel, and Alloy being pushed as "strong female heroes", I always point at Vin and yell "Look! Its not that freaking hard!" She's strong, independent, has her own opinions and goals, and can kick twelve different kinds of butt before breakfast. But she's also a vulnerable, flawed, human-sized knot of insecurities. And while she ends the trilogy as the most powerful allomancer who ever lived, able to take on entire armies by herself, she doesn't start off that way. She grows throughout the story, going from helpless street urchin to unstoppable tornado of death in a way that feels natural. And even at her strongest, she's not invulnerable, and constantly has to battle her sense of inferiority and fear of abandonment. She was actually a huge inspiration for Henry, and she has one of the best written character arcs I've ever read.

Odysseus of Ithaca. Enough said. A man who is willing to kill the entire world to simply see his wife and son again. Plus, depending on which version of the Odyssey you're looking at, it just gets sadder and sadder, which makes his journey more and more heartwarming by the end.

For now I'll choose Kim Sol-eum from 'Dropped into a Ghost Story, Still Gotta Work'.
I like it when he pretends to be a crazy psycho.

Following similar train of logic, there was a time where my favorite was Sailor Neptune, Mai/Azula, Nico di Angelo, or Severus Snape. I'm trying to think of more, but I'm having trouble, so picture all and any hot villain characters. That's it.
