Most entitled thing a reader has ever said?

I'm pretty sure we're all aware of how entitled people on the internet can be, especially when it comes to free entertainment. What's the most entitled thing your readers have ever said to you?

For me, it was back when I still used WattPad. I had just finished uploading the first Amber Silverblood book, and was taking a break by uploading The Slayer and the Sphinx instead. A few chapters in, one of my followers left a comment to let me know that this new story sucked, everyone hated it, and that I needed to go back to Amber Silverblood. I told them there would be more Amber Silverblood eventually, but for now I wanted to spend time on one of my other books. They told me I needed to "do the right thing" and start uploading Amber Silverblood again. I told them I couldn't upload any more Amber Silverblood because I hadn't written it yet, and besides, they didn't have any right to make demands for something they weren't paying a cent for. They responded saying that I had just lost a follower because they had "never been treated this badly in their life." I said that sounded good, and even helped them on their way by blocking them.

Your turn.

Most of my readers are nice, but I do get occasionally people who want me to change the story to what they want. It helps to picture them like drone chatters in streams. "Author-San, why don't you do this? Why don't you do that?" They're the same people who type negative comments at streamers because the streamer is not playing their game.

Had someone demand I write their ship into my fanfiction at about the 100k words with 0 romantic subtext mark. Basically they believe the Main Character should have ended up with the original protagonist of the game it was based on. Never mind that I had been writing the MC as viewing the original protagonist as a child and sort-of replacement for her daughter.

Also made me realize that I might need to be a little bit more blunt and flat out write "You remind me of my potentially dead kid so let me help you save the world so you don't die." instead of just hinting at it.

I haven’t really got any yet.

The closest thing I’ve got is being told I was focusing too much on side characters. Which wasn’t really entitled because at the time mc hadn’t appeared for a while. Either that or people forgetting what happened last chapter because I take so long to update.

I’ve been lucky that all the criticism I‘ve gotten has been pretty fair

Back in the day I wrote MASH fanfics. Kept getting shit on because I didn't pair Hawkeye with such in such, or my medical scenes weren't "realistic" which ignored the fact they were written by a former army doc, who agreed to help me. He saw meatball surgery in the sandbox.

Are you certain that they didn't suggest the ship realizing this? Incest isn't a nonexistent genre...
On a slightly similar note, going back to Amber Silverblood, I remember having this conversation...

Victor: *is a sadistic POS*

Reader: "Ooh, Victor's such a dark and broody bad boy! When is Amber gonna hook up with him?"

Me: "Seriously? First of all, Victor is, like, in his upper forties and Amber is a teenager. Secondly, he has done nothing but hurt her mentally and physically since they met, entirely on purpose, and his ultimate goal is to lock her up and experiment on her until she dies like a freaking lab rat."

Reader: "You're writing a romance between a teenager and an old man? WTF is wrong with you?"

Where do I start? I can write a book about it. :blob_hmm:

Thing is though, if peeps have a complaint. I do eventually get around to it. It just might take a long time. However, I have addressed many things over a long period of time.

Then there are those who try to change how the story is, and how I write. That’s when I put a pull stop on them.

I love my readers :blobsip: they are so nice and stuff and their support has been amazing~

With that being said, I do love messing with them :blob_hide: The majority of my readers are from places in Europe/Asia, so they always get annoyed when I use imperial units in my chapters :blob_evil:

So, in my most recent chapter, I decided to make every unit in terms of average chicken height / width so they'd have something they can visualize :blob_popcorn: So much better than using metric~ :blob_teehee:

Closest I've gotten was a reader getting mad at the way a character was behaving, but we had what felt like a constructive dialogue after that initial exchange so ... eh.

You skipped over the part when your reader enters their villain arc. Then you get to the part where after they basically commit genocide. You talk it out, they become the good guy, and all is somehow good.

Forgetting they just committed genocide. :blob_hmm_two:

That one fucking commenter who said my story is cringe and its author and readers are edgy. Then keep mentioning it over and over again whenever you have the chance. Fuck that one. Why do you keep reading the story if you don't like it? Just fucking drop it already.

AND STOP ASKING ME FOR UPDATES. I UPDATES WHENEVER I WANT TO. TELLING ME TO UPDATE FASTER JUST SO YOU CAN TALK SHIT ABOUT IT WILL JUST MAKE ME PUT YOU INTO MY SHITLIST.

My response? Make everything darker and edgier. I used to be soft spoken but after dealing with that bitch for so long I decided to become a bigger bitch.

AND YOU DARE GET ANGRY AT READERS FOR MAKING AUTHORS ABANDONING THEIR STORY? BITCH, YOU ARE THE PROBLEM YOURSELF. FUCK OFF.

I wish I could stay angry and hate you. But then I realized hate is not the opposite of love. Indifferent is. I am now indifferent towards you. If you are reading this, please ignore me as much as I ignore you. Thank you for making my time in SH unenjoyable. I am glad there is no one like you in Ao3 and Tapas.

I'm in the odd position of having time to post on forums but no time to write.

I want to preface this by saying a lot of the comments I get are really positive, helpful, and even the frustrating ones have pointed out honest mistakes. The top three most irrating comments for me.

3. I hate your book about magic and wizards because it has magic and wizards and that's too much for me. *oooookay?*
2. You released a bonus chapter out of sequence and I'm angry you broke my immersion. *Well, the chapter has the number where it actually goes and I wrote it to thank my readers. Please understand it'll be moved soon.*
1. Your story is meh because your central character is passive.

*Apparently there is a ban on passive characters. My autistic unemployed librarian whose social and financial life is a disaster should instantly become a genius hero goddess. She should know the solution to everything in the first chapter while being massively OP. She'd never possibly handle the destruction of her life and being thrown into a hellscape of a dungeon death game before the cruel and apathetic final bosses themselves with a state of shock and emotional confusion. People who are scared never attempt to summon up a moment of courage or control. Getting swept up into events beyond our control is a thing that NEVER HAPPENS and apperently has no universal connection. Well, you know what, after much agonizing debate I decided that to lean into my original decisions because not all central characters should have the same F-g reactions and personality. I know this is wrong, but sometimes, just F-k nuerotypicals.* :blob_catflip:

I have a reader who give "suggestions" in every chapters, but what they are actually doing is telling me to write my story their own way. You don't tell a writer how their story should proceed. Ever. It seem to me that they are just too lazy to write their own story and want others to write for them.

Passive characters are some of the best in my opinion.
Similarly I also adore stories in which the protagonist isn't a genius or powerful, instead in line with everyone else. Slower progression that puts characters before fights are great, but when the protagonist isn't a centerpiece is a personal favorite.

I was hoping for that outcome but no, just a chat. Unless I missed a news article...

I had two, one on Wattpad, one on SH. The one on Wattpad wanted my story to be written in 1st person, so I rewrote it in 1st person and made the reader really angry, b/c her friends thought she had bullied me to into writing it that way. The other person on SH was angry b/c my characters can't keep secrets, which is kind of weird to be angry about, but oh well.

Turn the can’t keep secrets into a joke. ?

You see, when readers get mad at me for one thing or another. I get motivation to write.

An example, I remember a while back. Someone was angry about the tragedies and whatnot.

So what did I do? I put on my A game, and wrote something even more tragic. :blob_hide:
