I remember reading a story a few years ago that had to do with a kid whose parents were the king and queen of a kingdom, but they had passed away in a battle (I think). He was raised by extended family, and when he grew up he had to travel to another realm to make a contract with a spirit or beast of some kind. I remember him creating a contract with a pheonix, and then ending up in a realm of dragons, where his Grandmother was. He eventually did go back home, and his Aunt who raised him was some kind of homunculus I believe.
I also think he had a personal maid or a guard, I don't remember which (May have been both roles) that was some kind of cow beastkin race.

If the kid was a female named Arianna, my wife listened to that one on PocketFM last year and I can probably get the title from her, but if it was male then no clue.

I believe you're talking about HikaruGenji's work, it's called "Son of the Hero King". The description you gave matches the exact premises of the story that Hikaru made, it's kinda hard to forget the homunculus aunt and the cow beast kin maid of his even if I dropped the novel years ago. Hopee it helps
