You can try to do this by just becoming learned in a subject you are close to or enjoy. Just make sure that you keep yourself open to opinions, if you disagree. Ask yourself. 'what do I find wrong about the statement', develop your stance and do your best to learn the perspective of their other person instead of just attempting to convince them of your views.
