Story dropped off trending?

Hi there. I saw my story, Princess of the Void, hit #7 on Trending. Then it disappeared about a half hour later. I've gathered that the trending algorithm is pretty opaque. I'm wondering--has this happened to others on here?

I'll live and I'm grateful for my audience and the site, and if there's some kind of rules my story didn't follow for what gets on Trending, I get it. But I was pretty excited to be on the front page of Scribblehub for the first time, and it's a bit of a bummer to have it suddenly go away ?

It means it trended yesterday, and by the time you refreshed it, the list had refreshed. If you see a surge in views, then it means it was trending long enough for readers to see.

I had one story hit 13 on Trending, or so I was informed. When I checked it was in the 20s. That was less than an hour later. As far as I know (stopped checking after two weeks), nothing I've written has cracked the top 200 since.

That's what was so odd to me--it'd started trending after the 7pm EST refresh in this case, and wasn't on the list before then.

Anyway, if this is a known phenomenon, I'm fine to let it lie. The ways of the list are not for us mortals, I get that.

In fact I got this as a response from an admin I'd messaged, for anyone reading this and wondering. Sounds like the list takes a bit once the day shifts over, to really settle into its final alignment. The more you know!

Hello, it’s just how trending works. The calculations for trending isn’t done as soon as the new day start. It takes awhile for the final trending to stay.

did you change the genres that you blocked? Your story might have some blocked genres lol

I have seen this happen before. The list refreshes at 00:00 GMT, but it's not officially recorded until like 30 minutes till an hour later or something like that. Not sure on specifics, but at that time, that's when the stories will be set in stone for that day.

You can actually observe it happen every day. At least a couple stories in the top 25 will rotate around after the initial reset.

Nope. Don't have anything blocked. It was just the after-update shuffle, I guess (though I do wonder how it went from #7 to entirely off the list, lol)

I think that's fairly common. No one knows exactly what makes a story appear on the trending list, otherwise people would just game the system

I have had my story up there once or twice and it was very brief. Sadly, you don't get a notification of your current trending status so you can never really tell without watching it.
