Translation tag in content warning or genre

With the amount of unreported translations on the site filling up the trending tab, I think few folks know that when posting a translation here on SH they are supposed to report it as a translation.

If instead we had a content warning or genre tag saying it is a translation and if all series with said tag are hidden from the main site unless you go searching for them, then we can probably reduce if not fix the issue.

There shouldn't be any tag at all. You know why?

Prohibited Series

  • Poems, random drawings, story ideas, etc... basically anything that isn't a story.
  • Non-English stories
  • Translations
You can post a translation here if you clear it with Tony first I believe. If we have it this way when stories are being approved the Mods can see if said story is a translation and if the translator in question is willing to work with them. All that is needed then is Tony’s approval and the translation is hidden and linked to NU if the poster did everything correct.

Doesn't solve this issue anyway since people have to tag it on their own. Not every translations is open about being a translation. It might theoretically help, if not for Tony not checking stories at all. I do not blame him in any way, but he is a single man. As for why I say Tony doesn't check stories, it is simple. I reported a lot of translations in latest series. Stories that have, this is a translation disclaimer in synopsis. Heck, I reported a story that wasn't in English. Even synopsis wasn't in English!

Agree it won’t fully stop the issue, but it will separate those trying to pull of a translation as an original work and those who just want a place to post a translation of something. Those willing to work with the mods and those not, if you understand what I am trying to say.
Will also probably alleviate a bit of it.

I see what you mean here. However, I think it will bring more confusion than it will benefit. I get what you mean, to separate good-natured people and those who lie and should be banned. Yet I don't think Tony bans translations. Even those that didn't mention they were translations.

I reported a lot of translations, more than a 100. Not all of them had a disclaimer in the synopsis, yet all of them were hidden. I don't think Tony banned any at all. So this separation, again, doesn't really add anything. Now, if Tony were to outright ban those who hide their novel is in fact a translation, that would be a different discussions, and I might've agreed with your way of doing it.

At the very least it would make moderation easier. Let’s say that 100 translations are on the site, at the current moment the only way to section them off to the translation corner of the site is to report them. That means Tony will have to go through 100 reports, implementing this will diminish that number.

Let’s say that 20 of 100 people select the translation content warning when submitting their stories, when these stories are approved they will be automatically hidden from the main site making Tony only have to go through 80 reports instead of 100.

Personally I believe the number will be closer to 30-40 out of a 100 will use the content warning but who can really predict the future.

I would expect the translation crowd to be significantly more dishonest than the fanfic people and we still have some problems with them. Between ignorance and dishonesty calling it 20/100 seems fair.

Its not FanFics alone, its just they are the biggest offenders outside of translations that fail to tag properly. I like to find them and give them bad ratings :blob_evil: and throw them in my trash folder.

Came here to post about this exact thing. I'm getting sick and tired of seeing AI translated Chinese novels on the front page, and unknowingly adding them to my read later list. Would be better than hoping for rules that aren't being enforced to be enforced.
They are being enforced... just not when they should be.

I guess the real issue is spotting PIRATED Translations right? Reading above many of you had good things to say, insight. But nobody mentioned the idea of PIRACY.

Also, I realize I should be grateful. I can exist writing and creating stories because there's a culture that doesn't allow them to be pirated. And that reports such activities. I would be forced to stop and not be able to produce more if it was pirated all the time.

I think you open up a whole can of worms by rejecting translations. On the grounds that it is not original, since well.

You then have to involve FanFics in this line. Either way, the site makes the rule.

This is definitely a need! And there should be the option to under report "report as translation" to add the tag after admin check
