Do you ever listen to music while you write or brain storm.

For me a good soundtrack really helps me set a mood for a scene or gets the juices flowing for daydreaming about what might happen next. I'll put on something sombre when I'm trying to get into the mood to write something sad, or put on some of my favourite battle themes from games or movies to try to put me in the mood to think of some fight scenarios. I have always had a thought though the this could be a bad thing, that the feelings I'm getting are coming from the music and not the words I'm writing down. Still, sometimes I just can't get into the proper mood without something in the background.

I listened to this theme a lot lately especially to get into that "journey has just begun" vibe

I find it helpful to listen to music with a strong, specific mood whenever I try to write something that I want to evoke said mood. It has to be music I'm super familiar with though, or else I wouldn't be able to focus lol.

Examples of what I've listened to:

  • Desolation:

  • Bittersweetness:

  • Melancholic longing :( :

  • Ridiculously long dialogue scene:

I always have background noise. Used to be music, but anymore, I usually have shows playing in the background. Right now, I have Eureka playing.

I do to the point it's almost a requirement, but I don't really do 'mood' music. I just slap on an instrumental (or mostly instrumental) track to help grease the wheels of my brain. What the music is doesn't matter all that much. :blobsip:

You have great music.
I don’t listen to music when I’m writing a novel. But when I’ve been working on something serious, I try to pick out music for a scene or a character so that I can picture it in my head as an AMV, trailer, or opening—something along those lines. It lets my imagination run wild, and I end up learning something new about the character or scene.
p.s: And I don't listen to music in a language I understand – it distracts.

I used to listen to tv/movie/game soundtracks but then I pavloved myself and now I get sleepy listening to piano or symphony. From there, I had specific playlists for different things I was writing. Now I just put on my "Liked" list and skip if the song doesn't fit.

HALO. Specifically, HALO Infinite. Even more specifically, the F2P Multiplayer side.
Don't get me wrong, I LOVE all of Bungie's HALO soundtracks from Combat Evolved unto Reach, and 343 can't possibly top their predecessor's even at their peak. But with Infinite, this time it's different.

Unlike the usual somber, melancholic choir tunes and upbeat drums we usually hear on both the story and the multiplayer, for Infinite, they have treading new grounds, for they have now included Post-Rock, and it is fucking great.

Of course, there are still somber tunes here and there, but, it's more hopeful than ever, and I haven't even mentioned that there are two versions of most music in the multiplayer. The Quiet, and the Loud.

There are many more hidden in the game files, but those are my top recommendation on what to hear, especially if it's for sci-fi.

I loveee listening to music, but I fear that if it's in a language I know, then I'll get distracted by it. Unless I want to be inspired by my music, I usually play songs I enjoy the tune and sound of but do not fully understand the meaning of, if that makes sense... A lot of my playlist consist of Asian music like Filipino, Japanese, Chinese, Korean.

I have long playlists, but even these can get repetitive after a while. Radio stations with instrumental music (classical, jazz, etc.) are useful when I get stuck in a rut with the old stand-bys.
