Editing What's the best AI proofreader?

I recently started using Microsoft Copilot to proofread my chapters. All I'm using it as is an extra pair of eyes to check for careless errors that my brain somehow skipped over when I proofread, like "he" instead of "him," a missing "a," and similar things.

Copilot works okay (it caught six errors in my last chapter, which was after I'd already done two passes), but I don't know if there's something better out there.

I'm about to have an AI go over about 200 chapters to find any errors that my dusty old monkey brain missed, and I'd prefer to use the best (free) one.

You could use chatgpt with an specific prompt. Its not the best for grammar, or even translation but if it comes to spelling mistakes, its clear asf. Dunno if its what your searching for though.

Grammarly has a free option, and it is quite good. Just make sure you take it’s suggestions with a grain of salt, this is an editing tool and not an editor.

^ Exactly this. Grammarly is an amazing tool, but it can't replicate or recognize the finer points of language. I use the free version and still have an alpha reader (basically a free proofreader) that catches things it missed.

You can also use a screen reader/text to speech to see if anything sounds wrong/incorrect when it reads through what you want to edit. Technically you could also try reading it aloud to yourself, but text to speech is easier and about as effective.

Go for Pro-wruiing aid. It will help to notice the errors in your manuscript whether it's style, grammar, etc . It's also made to be used for fiction writing.

That site looked interesting, but their monetization practices are atrocious. Their editor underlines areas that need changes, but when I mouse over the underlined section, I can't see what's wrong unless I'm a premium member. Since that obviously makes the site unusable, I went into the settings to see if I could turn the premium underlines off, but I can't even access settings without being a premium member!

What a shitty site.

Go back to basic. Don't be lazy, edit your entire work yourself. Learn your own style of writing. Like most YTP, EXE, and Other YouTube Shitpost.

Y'all got to comfortable with AI. Back to the stone Age.

Boooo to AI. As a writer, there is definitely a lot of personal errors I look over because my brain reads it how I think I wrote it, so having an outsider read it over for you is so necessary. But AI is BLEH. You should find a friend who can help look over it for you. Additionally, AI cannot help you with flow! A friend would be able to tell you if anything is confusing, rushed, etc.
