Hello, I have a question to the authors. How hard is writing two different (or more) stories at once? I know concentrating on one is probably better, but I am wondering.

I have at least 3 potential story ideas excluding the one I am writing already and I am afraid I will never get to use those ideas.

Another reason why I think of writing another sotry alongside with the already existing one, is that voices in my head make me want write sex scenes. I tried making one in my story, but it may feel slightly random and without any actual purpose for the story that is not smut. But if I would start a smut story, I could just put it all in there, while keeping my first story clean without it.

If you feel like you can write two or more at the same time without taking anything (quality-wise) from at least the main story - do it.
How hard? Depends on a person. For one it will be easy, another will be unable to do so without making both of them much worse than they could be if written one by one.

Well, yes. But that's why I am asking about experience of other authors.

I've tried and failed to do so, but I think it depends on the author. I like to get technical and have deep magic systems, which makes it hard to do.

It is easier to do on rewrites. On top of the already existing world, you got whole solid plans to work with and new ideas.

On a new work though, it can be harder to juggle multiple, and I don’t advise doing that. It is best to focus on one new work at a time.

It lessens the risk of leaving it incomplete.

There's no other way except to try it yourself. Just like that.

You could make a poll and 90% of people here might say it isn't worth it. You follow the poll. Congrats, now you'll never find out that you actually have a hidden talent to manage writing multiple works at the same time.

I'd say it's easy but I'm fairly certain I have an undiagnosed attention disorder. For me, I have 2 stories that are my main focus while I have a bunch of other little things that are pretty much just brain worms that I need to write or world plan to get them out of my head.

It only gets difficult when I'm writing similar characters or worlds but I always try to make sure I have my main focuses be vastly different. It helps keep my attention longer as I switch between them. Of course, one of my main stories also has like 4 different main PoVs with roughly 4 other minor ones so its kind of easy for me to switch between characters.

I say give it a try, and if you find it too challenging, pick the one that you like more. It's not like you can never go back and finish the other(s).

Yeah, my plan is to only commit to my next story while I'm doing rewrite stuff after the first one ends.

In the words of Shakira, "Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh! Try everything!"

But if you do want to write a sex-based AND plot-based continuity at the same time, you should know I also tried and failed to do so. I also suggest writing smut of a story you already established since you could integrate the two together.

(PS. Screw Shalltear, Albedo x Ainz forever!)

Hello, I have a question to the authors. How hard is writing two different (or more) stories at once? I know concentrating on one is probably better, but I am wondering.
I am currently writing several novels at the same time + my real job (comic artist and illustrator, so I also work on other stories) + personal comics. It is very hard, because you won't have enough inspiration for all of it everytime, sometimes your brain has a very good idea for a story but can't think of anything for another one. So if you have deadlines to meet, or if you want to post regularly for all stories, I strongly advise against it.

I somehow get around it by starting a story ONLY when I have written the general outline and fleshed out the entire plot (at least an arc or two, so that I can take a hiatus to think about the next part), and I write by following my outline, so I don't have much actual creation to do while writing

I'd say it's easy but I'm fairly certain I have an undiagnosed attention disorder.
Same with the attention disorder, I can render myself sick by working on only one thing and stressing out my brain

If you ever do it, write them at a slower pace and don’t publish them immediately
wait until you’re at least five chapters ahead
as long as there is no pressure, it’ll be fine.

As someone writing four stories at a time... I would say to pace yourself. The reason I do it is because I can quickly become bored of writing one thing and it helps me focus better if I swap between them. Keep good notes if you are going to do this though so you can come back to a story without forgetting things.

I should recommend, in addition to previous things, I'd focus on one while fleshing out an outline for others.

It ain't for everyone, or most people for that matter. As a reader, I can tell you the amount of authors who write multiple stories and actually finish one instead of dropping the oldest, is about 1 in 40.

if you dont do daily chapters its perfectly possible even if you write very little every day
hell, you could dedicate different days to different stories
if anything, it depends on how good your memory is about these things

Take a grain of salt, One Wise man said: "There is no such thing as multitasking. There is only Multi-failing."

Hope this Life advise will help some author here.

Anything is possible with schedule and diligence (and enough caffeine in your system).
