I've never been on a cruise before, but I've always wanted to. Now that I'm at a point where I feel somewhat comfortable with my finances (IE, two steps above abject poverty instead of just one) I'm thinking about saving up to go on a five day cruise to Mexico with Norwegian later this year. Nothing super fancy, but it'll be the first vacation I've been on since I moved out of my parents' place over a decade ago. Part of me thinks I'll have a blast just wandering around the ship, going to the shows, and doing whatever random activities strikes my fancy. The other part thinks I'll get bored after the first couple days of being stuck on boat, get sick of being surrounded by thousands of strangers all the time, and proceed to eat until I have a heart attack.

Have any of you ever been on a cruise before? What did you think? Anything I should know before I buy the tickets?

The worst that can happen is you sink to the bottom of ocean.

The best that can happen is that you sink to the bottom of the ocean and be ♾️ steps above poverty.

Dark jokes aside, budget your plans and keep some emergency funds. Make sure you got your will straightened up, deleted your browser history and thrown out your socks.

Since my family is pretty well off, I've been a on few cruises as a kid. As long as you don't get seasick like my mom, I think you'll have a blast. Remember, the Titanic was in the 19th century, cruise ships don't sink anymore.

Bring a swimsuit and shades (preferably sexy ones) and just enjoy yourself. Also, sometimes boats don't have Wi-Fi, so if anything, use it as an opportunity to unplug.

I’d rather just go to a nice hotel on a beach then go on a cruise. It’s basically the same thing, cheaper, and you aren’t stuck in giant metal box with a bunch of strangers on the remote seas

I like boats. I know, shocker from the guy who keeps talking about pirates, right?

As someone who got motion sick as a kid in cars, cruises had 0 effect on me in terms of sea sickness when I went as a kid. My suggestion is remember you don't need to do everything, if you want to relax and hang around one thing for some extra time it's your choice. Don't feel obligated to try as much as you can and fail just have fun where ever.
