I'll go first: 80% of 'plot twists/foreshadowing' is just authors reusing fan theories.

A lot of conventional writing advice doesn't matter that much and was made up to sell courses and workshops. Like, filter words? Adverbs? Who cares. Open up a classic book and you'll see a bunch of them. 3-act structure? Never heard of it. The characters of the novels I like just bullshit their time away doing random stuff until the end.

I watched a writing advice video talking about how you should tackle themes by thinking of them as one single question instead of a more broad idea, which pissed me the hell off. A lot of the stories I love don't fit into that.

Most authors don't know what they want to do with their story and MC; they just have a starting idea, and that's all.
Pretty much that.

What's more, one learns to write mainly by reading, and I think a lot of WN/LN authors only read WN/LN. And because a lot WN/LN either never ends, or they get dropped, a lot of writers just don't know how to write endings, because it's just not in their literary diet.

That's my opinion anyway.

You can quite often see this clearly, in stories that start strong, but soon get distracted by any random idea, often changing the overall tone or even the direction of the story on a whim.

You know, I used to have a fanfic on Wattpad where the readers made up their own theory on a couple of the characters, which was 100x better than what I was going to come up with.
The readers are your teacher

Authors secretly make Roast Duck without mentioning it in their stories. :blob_popcorn:
Only because the rabbit talked them out of hasenpfeffer....
Pretty much that.

I suspect a lot of WN/LN authors (Myself possibly included) got their start reading comic books/Manga (and the more recent Korean and Chinese "flavors"), which used to have episodic endings but now sometimes don't even have story arc endings (Thanks Chris Claremont!:mad_s:).
