Personally, I prefer "vintage" slice of life stuff, like, oh, most of Dickens's works.

Stories that lack a central, overarching narrative or development. In a traditional story, the author takes the most interesting part of the protagonist's life and explores it through a narrative lens. In contrast, slice-of-life presents facets of life without necessarily trying to do anything with them or forming a cohesive storyline. Because of this structure, most slice-of-life works are rarely purely slice of life and mostly exists in combination with genres like romance and comedy.
