The topic of guns, whether it's the technical aspect, historical aspect or political aspect, are very long and extensive and would take days to write out.

If you can give me something more specific, or what kind of guns you want... I can tell you that most armies are now adopting the AR-10 platform, which is a .308 round (much more powerful than the .556) which has armor piercing capabilities. From what I heard from someone I met through my work traveling, who works for a government agency that will not be named... world war 3 will probably have a lot more drones in use in the skies.

The guns will probably be attached to those drones, and the tactical advantage of drones are that they can be set to explode to protect technological and identity. Still, the difficulty with replacing human manned aircraft is that it could end up being a hacking war instead of an actual fight in some circumstances.

But with guns, the reason we still use bullets and gun powder is simple. Reliability. Laser and heat weapons are here now, but the powering of them before they can do actual damage is an issue since lithium isn't as available (even in small battery form) as lead.

America is the only country in the world that has the right to own weapons (military or otherwise) within its constitution. It's been a topic of contention, false flag operations (this is defined as a government producing a terrible event in order to manipulate public opinion), politics and even brainwashing.

While I can't say that every culture requires the right to bear weapons, or guns, to remain free, I can tell you that if Americans didn't have their right to own guns then governments around the world could potentially be emboldened to become more like dictatorships.

It's harder to control Americans with force when there is always a potential threat of over 100 million gun owners coming for your head.
