Upsetted reader leaving 2-stars in all my stories.

I had to block some brainfart commenters on my latest story,(as given by advice of some nice people here, I did not engage, just deleted those comments and blocked the users) Obviously one of them took is a bit more personal. Now their other-handle has been leaving 2-star, 1-star rating on all my stories. But they were cautious enough to not do it on the same day, like 1 or two days later.

This is specifically targeted because, my other stories are usually not very niche, and they have smaller audience like 6-10 over all ratings. So it highly unlikely someone will seek out those stories. Second, if they hated the first story, they would have avoided me as a writer, not seek and continue leaving 2 and 1-star ratings. You can also take additional cues, since the rest of their collections is filled with genderbender stuff, while only my stories are non-gb in their list.

Obviously, I have blocked them but could I get their ratings removed? Or will I have to endure?

Oh boi, this'll be another rating rant again.

Here's a quote from ThatTwat3000:

I'd like you to enjoy yourself in these threads. The chaos, the ugliness of youth, and the debate about rating system among big sites like Webnovel and Royal Road.

Reply to me if you're too lazy to read it and want a summary of it instead.

You could report the reviews.

Whether they would be actually removed, however, is a question.

Tony might delete them, or he might not.

It probably depends what is in them ....

Royal Road
...but it's so boring and quiet if we don't complain about them at least once per a week.

Thanks for the link and the threads. I get it where you come from. 1* star rating sucks, and I would happily take any one star rating if this was for a story. I have done it in the past with my other stories. Received them. Took them for what they are and moved. I accept readers can be of varied mindset. And as an writer I need to take criticism. Develop a thick skin.

Then there is the other side.
  • 1. I have never tried to monetize (not even my best ones) Even when some fuck stole my finished story and posted in on amazon and some of my readers reported it.
  • 2. I tried to avoid going hiatus. and tend to bring a full conclusion to my stories.
  • 3. Also, usually my chapters like 5-7K words each, and I try to post 2 chapters a week for the stories, without breaks. (It is all under my profile and I am not making this up.) So basically, I try to bring 180k worded stories every 4-5 months, all with an intention to hold on to a conscientious promise of delivering a complete story.
  • 4. In my latest story, I had to block readers for the following:
    • 4.a Demanding that I change the lore of the story for them (These are original stories not fanfic)
    • 4.b Insisted that I rewrite a 6k chapter
    • 4.c Demanded that incest happen between MC and mother soon.
    • 4.d Demanded that incest does not happen between MC and Mother. (I know can't satisfy everyone.)
    • 4.e Demanded I write scenes only involved one pairing.
    • 4.f This is addition to readers screaming bitch and slut in caps in comments. All I had to delete
  • Now to add on top of this, in the authors section, I always offer my readers to write any specific kinks or scenes that they love. I have been in sites where people usually take commission to write such kinks request, and I am providing those free of any cost. De nada. Nothing. I am not a bad writer, I have been approached with such commissioners in othersites, and in my social media, and I have turned down those offers.
  • My stories are posted parallel in AO3 and I have readers who wanted to see my stories in a paperback (Again, I am not making it, the comments are open, anyone can read them in ao3) I still have readers from there reach out to me in bsky and discord, pledging 50-100$ in kickstarter for a paperback if I start a campaign.
  • I also work parallel on backlogs while putting up my current story, and on top of editing. My current writing output is 20k words a week.

So I am appealing here, as a tired author, who never tried for financial gain, with only aim to provide a quality finished product. It takes effort to write even 10k words a week. and even more, a behemoth of a task to edit and polish. It takes more than a few small hours. This is the amount of effort that goes into my chapters. Yes, it is not easy, and I perserve.
Now the question, do authors like me get even any protection? Even after the multitude of effort, hours spent? Or do we have to endure more from someone with a alt-account dropping just 2-star and 1-stars out of spite?

You could still contact the moderator - Tony, he is the only one, and he runs this site.

This is the only way how to get the ratings removed.

You could argue that you received the rating only after the dispute with the certain reader, and were only done in retaliation after you blocked him, and thus are not valid / are trolling attempts.

Either way, it is better to contact the moderator straight away via the private messaging and wait for him to reply.

You could report the user you blocked, and you think is responsible. There is a report button in user profile.

You couldn't report your own story though, don't try.

You could alternatively simply private message Tony through the forum private messaging (click on the name, then click start conversation)

Or use the "contact us" section at the bottom of the screen.

You could also try with summoning into thread, but I suggest against it. Better to sort this out in private.

Tony has disable his profile in the site. I believe for a good reason. Though it is a good idea about the Contact Us section at the bottom of the screen.

Thank you.

Holy, what a schedule.

Talk to Tony about this, he'll reply once he's available. No worries.

Also, did they seriously asked for a rewrite? And a fricking incest, too, on top of that? Where'd you get them, here or AO3?

Thanks buddy. I tend to keep a low profile and enjoy my writing.

As for the rewrite part, yes it did happen. On the second chapter of my current story, one reader wrote a long essay and went on a brain aneursm and started referencing things that never happened in the story, including mom threatening to rape dad on his wedding day, I had to give up thinking anymore on their comments. They also signed with avid reader. (and with a comment in the next chapter demanding that I rewrite the previous chapter because it din't answer all their queries) Mind it this is the 2nd chapter of a story and they didn't have the patience to have any questions unanswered. I blocked them.

As for the incest, not going to lie, there is sexual tension between mother and daughter. I have explicitly stated in comments and references that there is a reason the story does not have incest tag. But apparently, my most flying story is because of the incest-y vibe. But that did not stop people from demanding direct rumble with Mom and stepmom and other stepmom. I think, I accidentally opened a can of worms and collected a particular readerbase with the latest story.

Again, I encourage my readers to ask for specific scenes and I am not going to kink shame anyone, but some demanded and threw tantrums or were downright impolite in the comments when the story did not go their way.

Don't get me wrong. Even in my current story, there are scenes, like Stepmom give MC a bath which was asked a reader, another scene with MC playing footsie with Mom and Stepmom, and another where the MC goes on a shopping date with Mom - there were requested nicely by some of the readers and I wrote the for them. As far as my readers put forward their ideas and ask I will indulge them, but sadly most of them (I hate to say, in SH, not much in AO3) are behaving like petulant teenagers who did not get an iPhone for christmas. I had to delete a lot of those comments.

The smut warriors tend to have unsuppressed horniness, so good decision to take them down. And I can see why they requested incest. Instead of thinking about horniness, I'd like to think that the MC and the Moms are just teasing each other, sexually or not, and those interactions bond them closer. Yeah, I love that kind of development.

If your story is good then those one star reviews will be overshadowed by the positive ones. Law of averages I suppose.
If you are worried they might affect your engagement then just report them and move, that's as much as you can do. Good luck.

Look I understand where you come from, but that logic only works on popular tags. I write in a niche not so popular, barely any readerbase. Even the blurb and tags makes it clear this is not a top set that people search in SH. An author in a popular genre maynot care about 1, or 2 troll voting because they have a huge reader base. Mine is like barely 10+ in my target audience.

had they dropped the troll voting on my most popular story, I would have just shrugged and moved past, but then they went after stories that had barely double digit readers.
