Transitioning out of grimdark

Eventually, hopefully, I’ll transition from grimdark to include more comedy. But after one reader commented that one of my more surrealist chapters didn’t fit with the tone of the rest of my story (according to them, my story is normally more cosmic horror with the sensation of drowning while the chapter was “so lol-randumb”), I’m worried about it being discordant.
So… any advice for the nervous nelly about going from tragedy to comedic series of unfortunate events type comedy without making my readers miffed?

No one size fits all advise for this one chief. Just pray you don't pull another bathos.

Pray to the Stars... And probably transition slowly, over the course of several long chapters. Or add bits and peices of comedy in your "normal" chapters, so your readers wouldn't notice that something changed.

You can also change your tone in one chapter, but you better give a good reason in-universe (for the lore-seeking readers) and a good enough bullshit reason (for those fucks who just want to ruin things). Maybe some gods grew bored of endless horrors and suffering, maybe now they want to have a laugh!

But in the end, there will be people who won't like the fact that the story changes gears. So, best of luck to you, Creepy Little Puppet, hope you can become the Funniest Little Puppet.
