Greeting Friends. First of all, If this is the wrong sub, it's beasts_regard's fault!

I am planning my book and want my MC to be a Necromancer. Original, I know, praise me.

I want him to start as a human and slowly transform into something undead, maybe a Licht-like creature...

Well...

Any ideas for interesting spells? Not just about Summoning, but something different? Like the corpse Explosion in Diablo.

My spell so far: No name yet, but something like a curse that let ones body rot the more the kill.

Maybe a necroinfection? if a summoned creature kills another creature they too become part of the summoned army? Sorry, never delved into such obscure magic before.

Augury. You could theoretically ask the souls of the dead about future events.

This is how we got the word necromancy. That's the original source of the word. Asking ghosts, well, ancestors or dead, for the prophecy on the future events.

If the souls of the dead couldn't see the future in your setting, they could still reveal the information about the events that did happened, or about the remote places. Essentially scrying.

Of course, you could conveniently figure out who is the murderer by asking the victim too.

Negromancy?

Somewhat Like this ??? :

--

A person on the river, they stretch their arms. Open their hands, a magic circle appeared.

They rise up their hands. Revealing a black dude come up from the river. Flesh colored in black attached to the skeletal remains.

It opens its eye, color in red as blood. And look down on the person who revived them, without free will.

It kneel down with a soulless look into their life.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯ {Got this Idea from TankFish}

Curses
Dead Bones/Flesh magic, like creating a barrier of bones to protect itself.
Soul magic can be anything, to be honest, like using the tormented souls in the surroundings or stocking them in an object/magic to create an explosion using their resentment as a power.
Using dead body to enhance the necromancer body, be it the flesh/muscles/tendons,/organs even soul if you want.

The last sounds like I could use it. I want my mc to evolve into some horror afterall. Would be nice to take more and more death characteristics

Curses are banes like curse of unsteady foot causes you to trip but only at the least appropriate time, oh look your a standing there fishing, randomly trip. A lich that has lifestyle magic his skeletons are the cleanest skeleton around his local residence be it crypt forgotten fortress or abandoned house now becomes spotless and clean, freaking local adventures out as what sort of lich makes their home so spotless. necromancer was isekai'd an ex gihad suicide bomber, determined to convert this new world to his religion, through use of suicide skeletons but not with things like corpse explosion thats an affront to his religion he straps his skeletons with c4.

If he doesn't have access to healing magic, so whenever he takes damage that won't simply heal over time, he basically starts to animate his own body.

And now he can use necromantic magic to fix those part of him. But when some of his humans part get hurt in another battle... well.. he can keep converting more of himself so he can fix himself with necromancy, or try to save what little of humanity he has left.

How does that sound?

This has the makings of a creepy body horror story where the reader is on the edge of the seat. Despite knowing how inevitable it is that the MC willl just keep going farther and farther down that path, they may be cheering on him to manage to avoid it for as long as he does.

Or some may whine he's still holding to his humanity, and wonder why he's not going in all and get it over with.

So you'd want to balance why the MC is progressing so slowly.

Change is scary, for one.

Fear of what happens when he goes beyond a certain point might hold him back.

Fear of how people will start to treat him when they can tell he's no longer human.

But maybe he starts to fight against impulses that get stronger the more undead he becomes, and he's afraid of that part of himself.
