So you decided to be a writer, good for you.

And within the first 20 chapters, you had decided to put in Depictions of Cruelty scene/s.

How many chapter/s of such scene would you have before you decide to put the tag in to lure in potential readers?

A. One chapter only and it is enough.
B. Two to Five chapters in.
C. At least ten chapters.

So time and tide waits for no men, you bit the bullet and had continued to write up to at least 100 chapters with your now sizable audience. But then, you noticed your entire work had long deviated and is now a lesbian furry smut, less than ten percent has scene/s with Depiction of Cruelty. Would you:

1. Drop the Tag for future audience?
2. Keep the lure in and tell yourself that "this is for their own good".

Ps. This thread is created by a biased and burnt scavenger.

Depictions of Cruelty is a wrong example. It is one of those tags that you better keep in, even if you only have 10 chapters out of 100. Same as rape, bl or gl subplot, and so on.
Well so is Body Swap, Isekai etc.

These scenes are one and done.

I really wanted to put BDSM though, because many authors, not just in SH, are taking a piss with misuse.

I just looked through SH series finder. I think it would be better to use tags such as; Army Building, Betrayal, Coma, and so on as an example. Because those aren't super divisive tags. Sure, fans of army building would whine if you misuse this tag, but their backlash won't be nearly as severe as when you don't use, for example, bisexual protagonist tag.

In my experience, not putting a certain tags in, no matter how small, is an easy way to make a reader pissed and give you a 1 star rating.
