I've been trying to come up with an idea for a litrpg that's both unique and... what's the word? Structurally sound? But I think I may have come up with one. How does this sound to you guys?

A disease is spreading across the world. It's symptoms are spontaneously manifesting superpowers, and an overwhelming need to rescue people with them. This has led to a plague of superheroes causing untold amounts of destruction trying to stop nonexistent crimes and fighting imaginary villains.

The main character was a "minor" hero (someone whose powers are mild enough to not cause too much trouble) who was given a new gadget that isolates the disease inside him, letting him keep his powers while not being controlled by them. This gadget can also cure other heroes of the disease by absorbing it out of them, which in turn boosts the MC's powers. The gadget even lets him focus that new power wherever he wants it to, strengthening certain parts of his abilities when they'll be the most helpful.

That's where the RPG part of this lit comes in. While it doesn't literally take place in a game, the powers he absorbs acts like XP, and strengthening his own powers is like leveling up. It would work similarly to Dark Souls' leveling system since that's the one I'm most familiar with. And as he gets more powerful, he can unlock new abilities as well. Not new powers, just new ways to use the power he already has.

What do you guys think? Could an idea like that do well?

That could work. I've been working on two kind of different LitRPG/System type stories.
One uses "milestone levelling" - the system tells the character what will grant level-ups before they happen and then lists the awards for gaining levels after.
The other is a simplified and modified version of a TTRPG called Aces and Eights where events trigger increases to skills, bonus abilities, or stat points (the actual game just grants Build Points that can be applied to everything ... but that would require ... well, copying about 20 pages of the rule book to explain, while this system just lists the "objectives" and limits the rewards for each).
If it feels like it could come from a game - a videogame, a board game, or an RPG, it is probably a valid concept.

That is a great idea! You can also put in achievements! Those are fun! (You might need to create a spreadsheet for them alone, but achievements are really fun!)

One thing you can have is two or more groups each thinking the other group/s are villains and fighting them.

From what I can tell about the devise, it does not so much work absorbing the powers, giving the powers, but instead it absorbs the powers, and use them to empower the MC by boosting his own pre-existing power. One gives him new powers, the other boosts what he already has, and mau unlock new facets of it he was not previously aware of.
