I want to know some of the reasons you might have.
Wow.Rule of cool, bigger means stronger, and a lot of different other reasons that could be shortened to "Weapon = d*ck, therefore it has to be big".
It's mostly the same kind of reasoning you see people with sportscars argue. But they're all just compensating.
Aheem don't reply with a question of yours. Why not?
Wow i never thought this way, good thing i posted the thread now i can get some ideas from others. What's the point of the fantasy if you don't exaggerate things? Broadswords are big because they are big and strong, rapiers are thin because they're swift and elegant, ballista are huge because it's against big stuff, and so on. It's the equivalent of distilling childlike wonder into a story.
Usually people in fantasy are strong especially those who use those big weapons.Cool factor, impact, and a way to visually say that the hero is strong.
Why not?Aheem don't reply with a question of yours.
I guess bigger weapons are efficient against fantasy monsters,no way you can fight a 14 meter monster with a tiny sword or something.Usually it's symbolism. Big is often associated with strong, especially if it's contrasted against something small and visually weak (why tiny characters with huge ass weapons are popular). That discrepancy between sizes is often a core design element, for similar reasons as oversized jackets or disproportionally big boots - they attract attention and may look cool or badass.
There are cases though when it's a deliberate functional choice. When you have fantastical monsters the size of houses or even larger (fantasy often does), even a regular longsword is light and tiny - with a bigger weapon, you have far more weight behind the strikes and you can inflict greater wounds.
Well said mr philosopher. To butcher a chinese phrase,
"Big is beautiful, aplenty is happy"
Also referring to the phrase "scared of not enuff dakka (firepower), we only fear when we are weak."
Coz they are compensating for something smol.I want to know some of the reasons you might have.
Nah, do finish it.Big weapons means bigger girth, it also means better handles, it also means a better... Nevermind, not gonna finish the joke.
And the OP asked "why tho"I mean.. it's fantasy ain't it?
So the answer is.. why not?
